Great book! Loved the book, but the binding stinks badly. Yes it is a paperback book, not intended for long term, but it crumbled while I was reading it. Good thing that the pages were numbered, as I was considering putting it in a bag and asking for another copy. Printed in NYC.... Avenue of the America'sMaybe hardbacks are better.

It’s official: this is my new favorite Patterson series and I want nothing more than for Dt. Billy Harney to be a real human so I could hang out with him for a day. Just 𝑜𝑛𝑒 day. 𝐴𝑛𝑦 day. Please. 😍Patterson was right—this is his best book in years (kudos as well to co-author, David Ellis!). I loved absolutely everything about it. From the prose, to the alternating timeline and exciting plot, this incredible cast of characters is simply put, pure perfection. 👌🏼Harney’s sarcasm and witty inner monologue added a level of depth that’s often missing from crime thrillers—such a breath of fresh air! An easy 5 ★s for this one!

The best Patterson book I have read in many years. The characters are great and the mystery very hard to anticipate.

Nothing else to say, but it takes 20 words to get posted. So, really good story, with a sad ending.

Both humor and twists and turns. What not to like. Yes, I will download another Patterson/Ellis book. Great read but you may not be able to put it down once you start it.

Repeating the same thing from the different characters made this book less enjoyable and at times mononucleosis. Story line was fun though!

Entertaining and thought provoking with twists and turns. Clever transitions between past and present with a solid structure and flawless storyline. Recommended.

「信じられるのは誰か？」突き詰めるとテーマはこれに尽きるんでしょうか。主人公の刑事ビリーが頭部を撃たれて他の2人の女性死体と同じ部屋で発見されたところから物語は始まります。ビリーには二卵性の双子の姉がいて、こちらも刑事、父も刑事という刑事一家です。ビリーは以前から警察内部の不正を調査しており、これを指示していたのが父とも親友である別の刑事。一方ビリーの捜査に横やりを入れてくる直属上司の刑事と大物女性判事とその美人助手。しかしこの美人助手とビリーは互いに相手の不正を疑いながらもひとめぼれしてしまうという微妙な関係。もう一人長年パートナーを組んでいた女性刑事とも関係を持ったりします。頭部を撃たれた際の記憶をなくしてしまった主人公が、裁判で犯人に仕立て上げられてゆく中、最後の最後で全ての記憶を取り戻し、証言する驚愕の内容とその証拠。登場人物のほとんどが一度は真犯人ではないかと疑われる絶妙な設定で読者を引きずり込みます。とにかく抜群に面白いです。読みだしたら止まらないという表現がこれほど当てはまる小説もめったにないでしょう。しかもこの手の止まらない話でよくありがちな、結果を知ってがっかりというのも全くなく、読後感も最高です。ジェームズ・パターソンとデヴィッド・エリスという二人の共著だそうですが、恐らく間違いなく映画化されそうです。自身を持ってお勧めできます。

The writer keeps you guessing what will happen next. You will not want to put the book down as the end of every chapter builds up the curiosity to want to know what happens next. Will definitely recommend the book to my friends.
