Interesting book!
My main objective in buying this book was to relive some of the memories I have of attending events at the Coliseum, especially to see the pictures/story of Nixon's campaign rally in 1972 which was a teenage adventure for me and which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else since then. However, as I skimmed through the book I was drawn into reading more of the background history of this building and discovered other events I had no knowledge had occurred there. Nicholas Hirshon has done a wonderful job of taking what most of us regard as a basically boring venue and has written a captivating, well-researched account of its history and made it interesting! I have a new appreciation for the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum now.

Great Memories but Black & White Pictures?
Overall, the book was good. Unfortunately, I can't get over the fact that all of the pictures were black and white. I was expecting at least some color pictures. Beyond that, the book was well written and traced a nice timeline from what the land was before the Coliseum was built all the way up to the ill-fated "Lighthouse" project. Of course, the Islanders history is what everyone remembers but the author added a nice touch by discussing some of the lesser sports including a team near and dear to my heart - the New York Arrows indoor soccer club. My rating would have been 4 stars instead of 3 stars if it wasn't for the black & white pictures.
