the Jaco Pastorius era (1976 - 1982) ...
much have been said about the group so will skip that ; in "Black Market", Alphonso Johnson still played in some cuts but left before the album can be completed ... enter Jaco ; these are the six albums he did with the band ... all are great but be forewarned, in "Heavy Weather", my favorite cut "Palladium" ends abruptly ; in the original release of the vinyl and early CDs, tune fades as it ends (the way I like it) ; as to why it was revised is beyond me ... but might not be an issue to others ; as a bonus, there is an accompanying booklet that gives a summary of the group with JP ; sessions of each album are documented too aside from their actual front & back covers ...

For cast looks great
This is an wonderful box set of Jaco Pastorius years of weather report. Jazz fusion at it's best. If it only had black market it would be worth it . Great box buy it now.

The definitive version of Weather Reports' best albums
Ove the years there have been several issues of the albums in this box set, which the group made with what is arguably their best line up. Alongside Zawinul and Shorter, it included Jaco Pastorius the bass guitar virtuoso, and Peter Erskine, the British drummer. This should be the definitive version, mastered from the original tapes, with an improvement in sound quality on the previous version .The set consists of six discs, including the live album, Tonight at 8.30. As well as the original tracks, all but two discs also include bonus tracks that have some relation to those on the original disc. Nine of these are from the Live and Unreleased album, and three, one of which was previously unreleased, from the 1979 Havana Jam festival in Cuba. The format of the box set is functional rather than luxurious - each disc is in a card envelope, with a reproduction of the original vinyl sleeve, and the discs are packed in a cardboard box with a booklet giving full details. For long-time fans of Weather Report, these discs will need no recommendation, and for newcomers, they are probably the most approachable introduction to the group’s work.

Genius
This set of albums shows off the genius of Jaco Pastorius in it’s full glory. I’m not really a jazz fan as such - my tastes range from classical to funk and most things in between. I’m certainly not “really” into jazz fusion - judging by this though perhaps I should have more of a listen. The music here is great.

excellent - but not their complete works
I'm sure another box set was issued a few years ago with far more of their albums included...so it may be the Jaco years but not their complete works...that set is asking to be reissued...
