25th Anniversary Edition of Whitesnake's 1987 breakout album, known as Whitesnake in the US and 1987 in Europe on marbled vinyl! Whitesnake is the seventh studio album by British hard rock band of the same name, released in 1987. The album aimed for more of a heavy metal sound than the previous ones but still managed to produce a major soft rock hit, ''Is This Love''. The album was a major crossover hit eventually selling over eight million copies in the US (and thus going eight times platinum). The album peaked at #2 on US Billboard 200, and #8 on the UK Albums Chart. Its success in the US boosted its predecessor, Slide It In, from gold to double platinum status. TRACKLISTING: A1 Still Of The Night A2 Give Me All Your Love A3 Bad Boys A4 Is This Love A5 Here I Go Again 87 A6 Straight From The Heart B1 Looking For Love B2 Children Of The Night B3 You're Gonna Break My Heart Again B4 Crying In The Rain B5 Don't Turn Away

Sniffing around your door...
I can't explain how excited I was to hear that Whitesnake was finally releasing their long awaited follow-up to `Slide It In' in the early spring of 1987. The first single "Still of the Night" was an absolute monster and it was much heavier then I remember Whitesnake ever being. When the self-titled LP finally came, I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. This was not the Whitesnake sound that I had originally fallen in love with but was in reality a much different band that was primed to take the hair metal world by storm! David Coverdale, after years of European success but American indifference remade the blues rock foundation of the first band and created a heavy metal juggernaut. John Sykes played a seriously blistering metal guitar and much of the blues trappings of the earlier years were much more subtle. So why was `Whitesnake' (or `1987') such a disappointment for me? Because the band that ruled the radio and MTV airwaves was not the REAL Whitesnake of 1978-1984. Also some of the "hits" still make me cringe today (almost threw up in my mouth the first time I heard "Is This Love"). "Crying in the Rain" and "Here I Go Again" were recorded songs originally found on the `Saints n' Sinners' LP and here they definitely improved during the makeover. I may be in the minority but I have never given this record as much love as its mega sales status would expect. A sell out is a sellout but at least it was better than the follow- up, but that's another story. "Still of the Night" is a classic and "Here I Go Again" may be the ultimate power ballad but give me the old Whitesnake any day!

In the still of the night!!
i was 14/15 when this came out and was lucky enough to see them twice in 87/88 with the Crue & Great White. Tom Aldridge, WOW! What a player, the chops, the fills, the power, the look! The guy is incredible and I love his hair and drum solos. Rest of the band speaks for itself and all the songs rock on this Coverdale recreation for the stage. Good stuff. Still rocks in Covid 2020 \MM/

Easily my favorite ablum.
I saw Whitesnake twice back in the day: opening for Motley Crue (yeah, I thought the bill should have been reversed, too) and a double-billing like all the old timers are doing now with Great White. They were phenomenal to watch (Vivian Campbell and Adrian Vandenberg) but no match John Sykes. I'm sorry I didn't get to see him play with 'Snake. He's the guy that made this and all of the best of Whitesnake. Don't get me wrong, Campbell and Vandenberg are great guitarists--they just don't have the feel of Sykes. I love this album and have since I bought my first copy new in the 80s.The sound he can coax from a Gibson Les Paul is like no other and really relays the emotion he brings to music. Highly recommend this (the UK release vs. the US which is missing 2 tracks).
