Fahrelnissa Zeid

A compact paperback exhibition catalogue published by Tate Modern to accompany an exhibition held in 2017; this also makes a useful introduction/monograph on this underrated Turkish artist.Fahrelnissa Zeid is known for her dazzling abstract paintings; immersed in Western art, she also drew on Islamic and Byzantine elements from the cultural past; while most of her work was abstract, figurative elements were apparent in her later work and she also turned to portraiture in her final years.This book has over 100 illustrations, the majority in full-colour with some gatefolds; the text provides a commentary to her life and work.Aside from one biography there aren`t many other references available at present, so this is a self-recommending volume should one wish to discover/research Zeid.
