Son enjoys these
Son has a few of these books and seems to enjoy them. They’re pretty easy to read but he likes them - he’s nine years old.

A great selection - full of mischief and so funny!
🎧Audio Book Review🎧Beano: Dennis and Gnasher - Super Slime Spectacular - The Bogeyman Of Bunkerton Castle - Little Menace's Great Escape🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟This selection brought back so many fond memories of sneaking a peek at my brother's Beano comics when I was much younger. He used to get them every week and I couldn't help having a read and a laugh at all the brilliant escapades that Dennis, Gnasher and the whole gang got up to.Gnasher was obviously my favourite character - but I loved them all really! In these stories, we are treated to more mischievous capers and lots of the usual toilet humour.I love how they cater for the youngsters who are just starting out on their reading journeys, with lots of silliness and scenes that will be relatable to the target audience. But I also loved that there were lots of things that were aimed at older kids and even those parents who are either reading along with their children - or sneaking a look when they're in bed!The writers have done a great job of keeping the stories similar to the old comics - the characters felt authentic to those I read about over 40 years ago (and probably those predating me too!) - but also infused the plots with modern sayings, items and events that would be relatable to youngsters of today.A brilliant selection that had me chortling the whole way through. This would be perfect to keep the kids quiet on those longer journeys or to pop on at home for something a bit different to do during the holidays.

Fun adventures from a more grown-up Beano
I’m channelling most of this review from my six-year-old boy. He’d not encountered Dennis and Gnasher’s adventures before, though I was a Beano reader as a kid. Since reading the book, he’s now become an avid fan of their current TV show, for better or worse. Here’s what he had to say about the book.*Sometimes it can be really funny, like when Dennis does something like a burp when he doesn't have to. The characters can be really funny.Sometimes there are dramatic things, when the whole science research lab fills up with water. It's a lot of fun. The character I like the most I think would be Pie Face, because he's really funny, and I really like funny people. It's a bit like the Tom Gates books, but more adventurous. It's similar in a way that there's a school and they have the same sort of adventures. There are a few drawings like the Tom Gates books, which I really like.Think it's for 7 year olds. I would definitely recommend it to people who like reading and stories. There are a few surprises and twists in the story, which I liked. Like when the slime started picking things up, and stacking them on top of each other. It wasn't difficult to read - some words might need a dictionary, otherwise it's totally suitable. At some points it can be boring. It's been quite long to get through. It has chapters - fourteen - they are quite big, and each chapter needs more than ten minutes (maybe).I would like to read other Dennis and Gnasher books like this. It's got some more characters than the TV cartoon. It's not a good story to read yourself to sleep, as some bits could be a bit scary for people my age, and it's quite funny too, so too lovely before sleep.*I can’t add much to that. I like the presentation of the book, it does feel modern and engaging and a nice balance between the Beano cartoon heritage and proper reading books. The print quality is good.I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity and representation that’s been introduced to the set of characters since I was a young reader of it. It doesn’t feel forced or tokenistic, and each of the new characters has their own character traits, instead of their unique minority feature being treated as a character trait. I think they’ve handled that well. Beano writers have clearly grown up too!If your kids are fans of the TV show already then they’ll take to this book straight away, if you can persuade them to turn the telly off.

Modern day Beano book
My whole family have always been huge Beano fans, I have almost every original Beano annual ever made and Im aware the Beano and Dennis the Menace has evolved to fit this PC day and age with tweaks to characters to be more inclusive and not offend anyone. For example Softy Walter is now just Walter Brown and Pieface seems to have changed appearance completely. There are also new characters to appeal to the modern day children such as Sketch Khad who draws grafitti on a drawing tablet... not sure I'm a fan of all the modern changes - If my children are reading a book, which I encourage over tech, I'd prefer characters to not be promoting tablet use etc but that's just my opinion. The more inclusive characters such as a wheelchair user etc are great. The book is a story rather than comic strip style but the book is still full of the fun drawings, speech bubbles, exclamations etc that we're used to and is entertaining to read due to the illustrations. The book is an easy read and even myself and partner have enjoyed reading it and it's made its way through all my children in turn and now they're keen for the others in the series.Recommended, a fun book but hard not to compare back to the original Beano that adults like me will have known and loved immensely.

Who Doesn't Love The Menace!
I don't think it matters how old you are, everyone loves Beano and has fond memories of the comic. It's nice to see Dennis and Gnasher in story form and is really appealing for all ages.My nephew who really isn't a fan of reading, really enjoyed book 2, The Abominable Snowmenace a while back and so this book 4 was just as much of a hit. He loves the comic visual aspect of the story with lots of pictures and big catchphrases and words like 'fwump' and 'Phee-ew' in nice bold lettering. A big hit, even my partner enjoyed this for an afternoon - entertained us all!
