The Last Teacher: A Stand-Alone Mackenzie Mystery (Mackenzie August, Killer Mysteries,)

This is like a prequel to the August Mackenzie series. It’s not an “origin”, as the North murders mentioned in his other books aren’t described here. Like Robert B Parker, the dialogue and humor are outstanding. And it does explain how he ended up in his ‘first novel’ August Origins. I promise you if you read the book, you’ll thank me afterwards.

Mackenzie August is rugged handsome and irresistible.An unlikely English teacher he applies for and gets a job in a small town high school where 2 of his colleagues are inexplicably murdered. Ex cop Mack feels he has no choice but to investigate. I loved everything about this book. The pace, the humour and the affection between the characters. Not to mention, the fearless tackling of fanatic religious belief. An excellent murder mystery

I wasn't sure if I liked this book when I began reading it but as I got into it, I found it very entertaining. The characters are interesting and believable. Give it a go.

Mackenzie August seems to have had several careers in his life. A very successful detective, a church worker and now English teacher. After only a very short while at the school two teachers are murdered and the bodies both left outside his trailer classroom, (I presume a mobile room). Is someone trying to frame him or does he have a stalker? Could it be the sex mad female teacher who is chasing him relentlessly? Mac needs to find out quickly when the life of his baby son is put in danger. Whilst this book is a murder mystery it has a few funny moments and is a good read.

Some comical lines but a pretty weak story line overall. Not exactly a page turning climactic finale either - in fact it stutters a bit in the last few chapters ! I thought it would improve but sadly not !!!
