THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL!
I really get on with the style of this Author. Things are well explained, it is not dictaorial with activities to cement learning. It helps to discover things about your camera you didn't know existed even after reading the manual, in addition to which it explains why and when you would need the features covered.I also have the Nikon D3200 version, both are high recommened.Tish

A very odd book
I bought this book to accompany my brand new Nikon D800. I was looking for a guide to expand on some of the new features and custom menu settings etc. Whilst the manual that comes with the camera is actually quite good I don't mind spending a few pounds to get some pretty pictures and straightforward explanations of the new features. Unfortunately this book is basically a very basic beginner's general photography guide to using a DSLR. It often has very little to do with the D800 and 90% of the text could be applied to any DSLR.Especially if you have owned a previous Nikon DSLR I doubt this book will offer anything new at all. Most of the topics covered are identical to any other enthusiast level Nikon. The main subjects are very basic level photography which is why I describe this book as odd. If you have just bought a D800 then you have purchased a professional level Nikon camera and it is highly unlikely you will need to be taught how to hold your camera, the nuances of landscape and action photography and what macro photography is. There is almost nothing of an intermediate level in this book. From the look inside view the first chapter starts off quite well going through setting up the camera and appears quite promising. Unfortunately from then on the book is quite a poor beginner's guide to general photography intersepersed with a few D800 menu screens often to be found on any other Nikon DSLR.I would only recommend this book to D800 owners new to DSLR photography. Anyone with already basic or intermediate knowledge would probably do well to avoid. I should have stuck with 'The Digital Field Guide' series I had for my D7000 instead. My copy is now for sale!
