Music and How it Works

This book is very colorful with lots of pictures, and covers many aspects of music. It looks back through history to modern times. It looks at a wide variety of modern-day musical instruments, and different styles of music from around the world. I particularly like the fact that the book lists a few songs or pieces of music for each style that is discussed, so that you can go on-line and listen to them. It also covers some musical notation.

The book goes from very fundamental musical elements and instruments, up to songwriting, composing, electronic music and very modern tendencies of musical practice of the last years. The illustrations, colours and layout are very vivid and help a lot to keep the focus on the topic and learn with short and concise statements.

This is a great way for a child to take his/her first steps in music. I purchased a copy for a child in the family and was so impressed I purchased two further copies for extended family.Very impressed.Mark

Bought this for my nephew, who has been reading a bit each night with his mom. He loves asking Alexa to play the suggested music, and his new favorite “go to sleep” request is Miles Davis! He’s 7!I’m thinking I should order another copy for myself!
