A refreshing and must Read for all....
Through this book Christy has done a wonderful job of bringing to life his passion for elephants and the problems mankind faces by encroaching into the world of elephants. The book asks some thought provoking questions..How do we ensure we give the animal kingdom the space to coexist ?… Has the National Park initiative really helped in addressing this problem ?Also igniting the technology fraternity by asking how one could leverage technology to prevent man-animal conflict and fatal accidents ?In his memoir he has beautifully and succinctly described a day in the life of a wildlife scientist .. The forest is indeed their office! Their observations and learnings are amazing especially around the moods of the animals and the interesting quirks of their world. One learns that elephants too have a big list of likes and dislikes and they truly feel that everything that Mother Nature provides indeed belongs to them .. the tidbit about their draw towards something as common as salt is a revelation to maybe most of us…This book is a subtle reminder that humanity needs to coexist in a meaningful way with these gentle beasts and care for them and their herd.A refreshing read for all ages especially animal lovers and every parent looking to read a beautiful story with their children , inculcate a sense of wonder & respect for these mysterious creatures.I am sure there are many many Tipus out there waiting to be courted and loved …

Unputdownable!
Tipu just found another ardent admirer! What a beautifully captured journey! Laughed, cried and felt all the emotions for Tipu and his friends, both human and elephant! The description is almost visual! And the chapter on Letter from Tipu! Keep that box of tissues ready!I have always been a fan of Kashmira Ma’am and Christy Sir, the dynamic duo , and this book is an amazing testament to how important the work they do is, and how urgent it is that we all paid heed. The book leaves you wanting, in the best possible way, and hoping that Tipu and his friends get to roam the lengths and breadth of their land with the same gusto as they deserve!Love you Tipu!Eisha

A beautiful read
The book is a series of anecdotes about encounters with wild elephants in Rajaji National Park. It’s a straight from the heart account- unpretentious- beautiful in its simplicity and honesty. No jargon. No embellishments. Smart editing. One can finish the book in a single sitting. The stories will stay with me for a lon long time. A must read for any wildlife enthusiast.

Enjoyable and Engrossing
Thoroughly enjoyable narration by the author.Loved Ch. 19, which is an emotionally connecting chapter where the Sultan writes a letter to us, humans.Tipu, the elephant is very much a human, a sage teacher and mentor...a life well lived...

Magnificent read !!
This amazing work 'Tipu-Sultan of the Siwaliks by Amirtharaj Christy Williams was one of my first reads of 2022, and it left a mark on my heart and soul. While reading the book, I was actually teleported to the Rajaji National Park and could see the mesmerising world of elephants through the window of this book. The book highlighted not only the conservation and protection of elephants but also how important they are for the ecosystem. In times where animals are at a danger of extinction, this book brings a solution for their conservation and also will help the children to experience and connect with nature and animals.

Learning about elephants through a field researcher's experience
This book is an enjoyable, easy read - full of personal experiences and interesting facts about elephants. The character of the author comes through each page along with the characters of the elephants he studies in one of India's best known conservation areas. Christy Williams is both passionate and compassionate in equal measure, feeling strong emotions on behalf of the elephants he wants to protect while also recognising the needs of local people. I've worked for years with elephants in the wild, but even I learned a lot from this book. For those of you with less experience, it will be a treat.

A must for every young (and not anymore) passionate for conservation all over the world
This book unfolds emotions and passion from teh writer and inevitably led the reader to feel him/her self a young researcher in a remote field station busy with adventures that make every day as a unique day.It reopens my drawer of dreams when as a young researcher I was hoping to become a PhD candidate and leave for any exotic and fantastic far away land to study and protect wildlife.I’ve been honoured and privileged to work with Christy and I was not expecting anything less for someone with his passion for his work.A book that should be recommended to any student to help opening our eyes on the tragedy of loss of nature and to fuel passion and hope.

Extraordinary read!
Authored by a lifelong wildlife enthusiast and one of the world's foremost experts on Asian elephants, the book celebrates the intelligence, compassion and social lives of these amazing animals in a way that's never been done before. This book gives new meaning to the definition of a sentient being and shows why we as humans need to do more to both understand and protect these animals and their habitat. The interplay and conflicts between these highly intelligent animals and the local populations, including how high speed train lines that run through national parks have tragic consequences brings home the need for urgency in making changes to the way we plan communities and infrastructure while protecting wildlife. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to understand better, the wonderful world we live and share with others - not just for animal lovers and conservationists.

One of the must reads
A collection of captivating, amusing and inspiring real-life experiences of one of the world's most respected conservationists. Author's enthusiasm and passion for wildlife conservation comes through in every single page of this memoir. If you are drawn by the majestic Asian elephants and want to know about the challenges they face in the world's soon-to-be most populated country, this is the book for you. What I loved the most about this book is the foundational questions it forces readers to think about, for example "who is representing elephants in the multi-stakeholder meetings?". These are the kind of questions that must guide our conservation efforts - whether you are a young researcher or the CEO of a big organization.I hope Christy will continue to write about his experiences and inspire the broader conservation community.
