Part installed due to oil consumption service bulletin.
A pain to install. Have to remove front differential. Front drive axle. Rear crossmember. Disconnect CV axles. Drop steering rack just to take off oil pan. Took me and a buddy 8 hours to do. Would be significantly easier on a 2WD truck. I have a 2011 Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L V8 Z71 4x4

Pain to install, but cheap insurance
Hard to believe this little part is integral to solving the oil burning issue on the 5.3L VVT/DOD engines, but it is. Pain to drop pan on 4WD, but do-able in the driveway with plenty of tools and truck on ramps. Replace the relief valve while you're at it. This goes under it. Also, good opportunity to replace oil pickup o-ring and clean out the pickup tube of any gunk.

I don’t think my burban is burning any more oil!
Wow what a chore to install this silly little part! Took 7 hours total to drop the diff, steering and other stuff, clean things, install new parts and put back together again. While you’re in there, definitely replace the oil pump pick up o ring too… ours was cracked and I’m glad I replaced it. Why gm didn’t install these right off the get go is baffling to me. I did this and replaced the drivers side valve cover and we have no more Smokey startups. Hooray!

A Must
When you do the oil pan gasket this is a must. This will allow the oil to be pushed back into the pan and not up towards the bottom engine. 17mm socket and its off and on again

Thanks gm
I found this updated piece incredibly easy to install. Okay I removed the 5.3 engine and did the gm recommended service which includes replacing the cam, lifters, all the intake and exhaust valves, oil pump, timing chain and all the gaskets along with the oil solenoid
