No, there are not any speakers or volume control.

Does the microphone come with a reciever and transmitter?

No. This is just a microphone. Basically a lapel microphone that is pre-mounted on a frame that can go around both ears to keep the mic 2"-3" away from your mouth. The transmitter and receiver are something you need to provide.

Is the length of the mic adjustable? I work with younger actors who often need it to be shorter than adults.

We don't use for anyone except adults, I don't believe it would work well with a small child, it is somewhat adjustable for adult heads. Sorry I don't have a more firm answer,
