Beth Martin Books Puzzling Escapes The Terrifying Haunted House on Mystery Lane

Let me start by saying I LOVE puzzles. I am a huge fan of escape rooms and anything that is a fun challenge and makes you think. Unfortunately, this book was not it. It was unnecessarily confusing and had you constantly flipping from one part of the book to another. There is a reference in the book to a webpage you can visit to check clues and it isn’t even set up yet for her last two books so it was useless. I really wanted to like this book, but it was a huge disappointment. I would not buy any of these books again.

The actual puzzles themselves are kind of interesting, easy to medium for veteran puzzle enthusiasts. However, the instructions on how to navigate this book are extremely vague. I had to keep flipping back and forth through the book, which itself is frustrating, but when I got to the end of the story, I hadn't even done four of the puzzles. I've been back through the book in detail twice now and nowhere can I find where I'm directed to those puzzles. Not a well done puzzle book. Don't buy.

This puzzle book was not well done. The answers in the answer key didn't line up and some puzzles were laughably easy while others were just weird and hard to understand.

This book was so much fun! The puzzles were so cleverly written, and I loved the way to check your answer! It allowed us to check our answer, without giving away the answer, if we were incorrect. The story was fun and the puzzles were really thought provoking. I did it with my husband, and we had fun bouncing ideas off of each other. Totally worth the buy!

The idea is nice, but the flipping back and forth wasn't much fun and really wanted to tear the book apart into several different books to avoid this. The story line itself didn't really get me enthusiastic, but the puzzles themselves were decent. Don't think I'd buy another of the books as originally planned.
