Do some online research about the product so you know how to best apply it. Gentle brush strokes leave minimal marks that just look like wood grain. My neighbor is a contractor and he was impressed! They have poly coatings called tough coat. I have used their matte finish and was very satisfied. You could put the tough coat on with a brush a sponge or a cloth. I used a sponge and it turned out great. They also have a gloss finish but I have never tried that one as it wasn't the finish I was looking for on that project.
