Galaxy: The Prettiest Star

Love everything about it
This is the first thing of Jadzia Axelrod I read and it blew me away. Its like some one took a bunch of awesome and threw it all together into a sold brick of awesome.I really enjoy the art style, the David Bowie references, the doggo. The story really spoke to me. Of course its a trans story, but honestly I think most people can relate in some fashion for the need to be yourself.Worth noting that this is an origin story for a character that is starting to appear in regular DC comics.Excited to see all the places this character is going and for more stories from this author.

Another amazing story!
I chose to get this book when I found out the characters within would show up in Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story. And frankly, love this book! My first introduction to this character and I so relate to them as I too am trans. And Galaxy's character design is so beautiful! I really hope I get to see more of her in later comic issues.

Gorgeous, visceral, heartwarming
I adored this book. Axelrod and Taylor have created a lush and vibrant coming-of-age story that is also a clever allegory for growing up trans. The artwork is bold and impressionistic, and does a wonderful job of drawing us into Taylor’s world and the larger-than-life emotions that surround the teenage years. For anyone who has ever felt out-of-place in their own body, anyone who has ever felt like an outsider who had to hide their real self, anyone who has ever felt the joy and terror that comes from stepping outside their family’s/community’s expectations to embrace their authentic self, GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR will feel achingly familiar … and it will also offer hope, that the benefits of being yourself will far outweigh the cost.

The best damn gift to give a young trans woman.
Like Ms. Axelrod, I came out to myself in my 30s. If I had read this book when I was in high school, I think I might have been able to leapfrog over the decades of dysphoria and uncertainty and anxiety that was my adult life and reach for something more. The beauty and labor of love that went into this novel is just through the charts. The color schemes and facial expressions are just tugging at my heartstrings and my laughing muscles. My favorite comic illustrator is Kevin McGuire (JLI), and Jess Taylor's style is far more pronounced and manga-like, but still has the same range of communicating emotion and nuance. And the fashion... I mean, you know the character designs are a treasure trove of style. I wish I had gotten into fashion earlier in life, and this book definitely inspires. But it's also timeless in many ways.Just, wow.

Amazing story and art, LGBTQIA representation!
I originally read Galaxy on DC’s mobile app, and loved the story so much I needed to get a forever copy! Meaningful character development and relationships, beautiful queer and transgender representation. The art style is stunning! Very happy to support the authors with this purchase!

A review from a straight/cis dad.
I feel it important to first say I am a straight/cis man, but I’m also a parent of a young kid who I’d hope knows they can always be themselves around me. This book is an allegory for the trans experience. It is very well told a has beautiful art work. While I’ll never understand what it’s like to be trans, between this book and talking to friends who are trans I do feel I gained some important insight. All of that aside (not that it should be set aside) it’s a lovely book. I got emotional reading it. It didn’t go where I thought it was in the end but I still thought it was a great read.

I'm so grateful my kid gets to grow up in a world with this story in it.
I found this story both beautiful and moving. It helped me feel closer to all the trans people in my life. The raw pain woven with joy left me crying in a parking lot, while the joyful scenes of release left me feeling elated along with her. If this is a story you're open to, read it. It's worth the journey each time I re-read it.

Representation matters! Thank you!
I bought this for my 10 year old trans nephew who loves writing comics. It's still a little above his reading level, but his eyes lit up when I told him about the story and how a trans person wrote it. Thank you for showing him what's possible. The story itself is very relatable and the artwork is fantastic. I have a humble request that the sequel have a trans boy protagonist. Love love love!
