Q: can you use a glass palette instead? what are the dimensions of the palette,? would it be possible to swap for a glass palette separately?

The palette pulls out on the side, so I don't think it can be changed out.

Q: While sitting, do you have to bend forward to reach your canvas?

I usually stand while painting, but twice i used it while sitting, and it was great. No need to bend forward the box is aprox 9" from the front edge to the canvas. Enjoy painting.

Q: Can the easel hold a wet panel when the pochade box is closed without it making contact with the paint on the palette? Thanks so much.

Yes, there is a compartment in the base of the unit that can hold a wet panel of a variety of sizes (different slotted inserts), I have measured it up and a standard size of 12 inch x 9 inch fits nicely

Q: What kind of tripod do I need to buy that will go with this product?

I purchased this easel as a gift and did not buy a tripod to go with it but I would suggest a tripod that is full sized so it can adjusted whether you are using while standing or sitting
