Makes working with sourdough a breeze!
It's a bit big for single sourdough loaves - that's what I use if for until I can develop a great sourdough bread. Then, I'll have room for 2-loaves at a time easily with this big bucket. Lids were included. Nice and roomy, easy to get my folds done before bulk fermentation. Appreciate the markings on the side of the bucket - which will help during the rise period. Very happy with this set of two! Very quick shipping, too! (I live in the same state as the seller)

My favorite bread bungalows
Great quality containers for my bread making hobby. Big enough the dough doesn’t jump out! Lids fit snugly but aren’t hard to remove with messy hands. Light weight but durable.

Camco Quality
Great for home or commercial use. These are the gold standard for food prep storage (and long-term storage). We use from for everything from storing bulk flour to kids toys (blocks). Get round containers if you want to stir inside the container or will be scraping out dough. Use square containers for fridge or shelf storage (it's more efficient for stacking on a shelf or in a cabinet). A few things to be aware of: Pros: *The containers hold just over their named volume (e.g. 1 gallon container holds 1+ gallons) *Containers are marked with graduated volumes for rough measurements and to help you keep track of how much you have left *Containers stack well, but keep in mind that they have handles on the side, so each container will require a couple inches of added height to the stack *Containers are heat resistant (e.g. hot soup), freezer proof, dishwasher safe *BPA-free for longer term storage and use with child/infant foods (note that the BPA free is because these are polypropylene not polycarbonate. *Because these are polypropylene, they flex and bend which could be a pro or con (like rubbermaid or tupperware containers) *Lids seal air tight and make a nice *snap* so you know they are closed Cons: *Polypropylene will discolor over time, especially with your usual suspects (e.g. tomato sauces) *Polypropylene has a slight haze/translucence. If you're looking for true clear, go with polycarbonate *Putting on the lids is a two-hand affair because you have to get them lined up just right

Works Great
This eight-quart round food storage container is perfect for keeping baking essentials like flour and sugar fresh and organized. The large capacity holds plenty, while the airtight seal helps maintain freshness. Durable and easy to clean, it’s a great addition to any baker’s kitchen.

NICE containers
I really like these containers and am so happy to have found them. I received a set of the 4 quart and a set of 6 quart. I'll review them both here since all off the reviews for Cambro round containers are mixed together in the comment section. I bought these mainly to store dry foodstuff; the 4 qt just fits in my side-by-side freezer and will hold wheat berries until I grind them in the Wondermill electric (I've heard that using frozen berries will keep the resulting flour cooler). I also dedicated a 4 qt container to use in my fridge as a compost pail since it's not too great to leave a compost pail on the counter in the summer (because of gnats). The containers are just perfect for these uses! They kind of remind me of the one brands of ice cream and sherbert that come in those very sturdy round plastic containers (well, they used to be sturdy back in the day, at least). I think these are a bit thicker, though (but maybe not thicker than the sherbert container--those are stout little bowls). To be honest, if I needed a 1 quart container, I'd simply reuse those sherbert bowls if I had any around (and I could always request them on Freecycle, at any rate). The lids fit very nicely; quite snug, in fact. If I end up making the Artisan bread, I'll use one of the 6 quarts to store the dough in, but I will just cock the lid so I don't have to drill any holes (if I wanted to drill holes in a lid, I'd just reuse one of those big ice cream pails with handles so that I wouldn't have to ruin a new container). I love that they're food safe, quite large, and made in the USA. Big pluses to me, and the main reasons why I chose these containers. You can't hardly find nice containers this big without spending a ton of money. I think these are very reasonably priced for what you get and how long they will last. The markings on the side are large and clear (in both quarts and liters), though I wonder if it would start fading if washed too vigorously. I don't plan on finding out, as I will just thoroughly wash the inside and lightly wash the outside. The exact measurements of the 4 quart with the lid OFF are 7" diameter (just under 8 1/4" if you include the handles) and the height is just over 8 1/4". The listing shows the diameter measurements to be bigger than that, but that's with the lid on. The height measurement listed is with ALL the buckets stacked inside each other. The measurements of the 6 quart are almost 9" diameter (9 3/4" diameter at the handles)--again without the lid--and it's just under 8" tall. This size holds 5 pounds of flour or cornmeal with room leftover at the top. Btw, when properly measured, there are about 17 1/2 cups of cornmeal in a 5 pound bag, whereas there are about 20 cups of flour in a 5 lb bag of flour (the densities being different). As far as the reviews that mention a slick coating: I did notice a bit of a coating to the containers, but it came right off when I washed them in hot soapy water; I didn't find it weird or offensive at all. In fact, these are the only plastic containers I have that didn't stink to high heaven when I got them. They don't have that awful plastic smell at all that you get when you buy some other brands of plastic storage containers. I had all but given up finding plastic food storage that doesn't stink, but finally I found some! The plastic is a naturally slick type, but there isn't any kind of coating on them after they're washed. They're just like that--a very smooth finish. I love these so much that I'll definitely be buying more of them in the same size and also in the other sizes. I'll use the 2 qt to store freshly-ground flour in the freezer if I have any leftover or want to grind extra for the week. I am hoping they fit one pound of dry baking ingredient as I plan on storing a pound of organic masa harina in one of them, if so. And now I'll be able to combine all of those various bags of rice in one 6 or 8 qt container instead of 5 small jars. Lol. Edit to add: I don't see how people can think these containers are expensive. I shopped around quite a lot before deciding on these and they are definitely less expensive than the same sizes in Rubbermaid and Klip-It (differently shaped, though). For a product that is BPA-free AND made in America, what more could you want? The price comes out to be less than $10 each container, which is definitely lower than the other brands (which may or may not be BPA-free). Also, with regards to lids not being snug enough--I think this is a production run thing. All of my container lids fit great--not too tight and not too loose. So I do think that it depends on the day they were made or something like that. Just individual runs of a lot, perhaps. Amazon has a great return policy for those who receive odd-balls. They pay for the return shipping and will even send UPS to your door to pick them up. The amount of flour you can fit into these containers varies from flour to flour. I was able to fit 5 lbs of Kamut flour in a 4 qt container, but when I went to put 5 lbs of barley flour into one, it wouldn't work. The barley flour had to go into a 6 qt tub (and it *just* fit). Five pounds of cornmeal would fit into a 4 qt container because it's so dense.

Great for making bread!
I ordered these when I got the book "Flour, Water, Salt, Yeast" by Ken Forkish who recommended this particular size for fermenting Poolish, Biga, and Levain cultures. They are plenty big for these cultures, and I probably could have got away with the 4 qt size. Nonetheless, these containers are great for the following reasons: Translucent (slightly cloudy) color is still see-through and half the price of the transparent ones. Lids are very tight fitting, but not air tight so it allows expansion of dough rise / fermentation without any issues. Has a very slick surface that makes mixing and clean up a breeze; doesn't have an "oily" residue although first impression makes you think so until you wash it to find out. Very durable and doesn't appear to scratch easily (unless you're using metal utensils which is a no-no for plastics anyway). And red markings for 2-4-6 measurements on the side allows a quick glance at volume when dough is rising. With the two-set, one for pre-ferment use, and the other one can hold 1.5 bags of (5lb) flour. The book's recipes generally call for 1000g of flour, so once I use enough for one recipe, I can store the rest of the bag and another whole bag in the container. Or just order the 8qt set for storing White and Whole Wheat (or whatever you use most) with two 5lb bags and a scoop. Multi-use containers for bread making. Absolutely love these and highly recommend!

Handy bread making accessory
I bought these because they’re recommended in the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes A Day books. As a beginner bread maker, they’ve been invaluable - I can easily see if my dough has risen the ‘right’ amount in comparison to the recipe. They do take up a bit of room in the fridge, but now that I’ve adjusted the shelves, it’s no problem.

The containers are alot less see-through than the pictures imply
I bought these for mixing dough. Unfortunately you can not see the dough in the container clear enough to monitor fermentation. They are much more opaque than the pictures imply.

Convenient size and containers
These are great containers. So far I've only used them for water glassing my eggs to preserve through the winter. I did buy 2 sets so in the future, I like the other ideas of using for saurkraut and for soap. I came on here to repurchase and the price has gone up another 8.00. Unfortunately the next batch of eggs will be going into my 2 gallon Mason jars instead which I get double the amount of volume for half the price and will probably look nicer and more farmish anyways. (2 gallons x 6 jars for under $20.00) I liked the idea of the plastic being lighter, and let's face it, it's hard to find this size of containers to have on hand. But the way Amazon keeps sneaking price increases I've learned to double check and compare to previous purchases. Beware also of subscription items. My 2 lbs of coffee went up almost 10.00 per bag. They are trying to take over the world so be diligent and keep an eye on things. You think youre saving money by subscribing but thats how they get you.. I'm going to focus on buying more local, even though we are rural and it's hard. I will be ordering things in bulk from local companies much more often. Including my coffee. All that onna side note, if money isn't an issue these containers are a great addition to any household.

These are great.
I have several of these containers and they work well for me. I use them to store flour, rice, dry pasta, white sugar, and crackers in my pantry closet. They work well for refrigerating big batches of muffin batter, and for mixing and doing slow fermentation of sourdough bread dough. The volume markings on the opaque side of container allow for easy assessment of dough rise, and also to identify contents. They are easy to clean by hand in the sink, (NEVER in the dishwasher). Even though square or rectangular storage containers are more space efficient in a pantry, the bottom corners and crevasses are more difficult to wash, and the square/ rectangular lids are more difficult to snap on securely and harder to remove. The lids snap on and off easily on these round/barrel shaped containers, which is very important to a person with arthritic hands. So…I definitely prefer these containers. I received my order promptly and it was well packaged. Well worth the price.
