I bought these boards for a WLED project I built. using a 5 meter LED strip, i needed to use an external power supply to power the board and the lights (these little boards just cant power that many lights on their own over USB power). After setting up wled, i could make it work fine using only a few lights on the strand, and the USB power source, but as soon as I set it to use the full strip, and connected the external power, it would go into a crash loop. I never got to the bottom of why, but I tried a different ESP8266 board and it worked exactly as expected. The board appeared to work perpectly otherwise, i cannot explain why it didnt work for my project. I still have the boards, and may give them another shot on a future project, but for this, it just wouldnt work.

These SNCT D1 Mini ESP8266 ESP-12 chips are very good ESP8266 chips. They are easy to program with a mini USB input. I didn't really have any issues with these chips. I have been using them to make smart home automation devices in my house. They have been very reliable and I haven't had any fail yet. I would recommend these D1 Mini ESP8266 chips.
