Tripwire (Jack Reacher)

I'm glad I read this book. I was reading them mostly in order until I read the bad review of this one. Then I read a couple of other ones in the series, and came back to it. I'd wondered about several things in the other books and this one cleared them up. Another score, Mr. Child!

The story was very well written, had a complex plot, was very suspenseful and full of action, and had a interesting surprise at the end, but the bad guy characters were so evil that the story was not fun to read. Innocent people were killed for the sake of killing, were tortured, and their agony prolonged. This wasn't necessary for the story and only created revulsion in the reader. For the entire book I was worried that Jack Reacher had finally found a woman to love and that she was going to be killed before the end of the book. Likewise, several characters with whom I had become sympathetic and who withstood humiliation and torture were left in limbo throughout the book and I was sure that they would be killed, as many other people were. A number of aspects of the story, while very interesting, seemed to be unreasonable and unrealistic. Until recently I would not have imagined that the Pentagon could cover up facts as they were described in this story, but recent events suggest that they may be capable of such cover-ups. I certainly hope these aspects of the story were fantasy and not accurate. This is a very gripping story that I rate 7 of 10, but it was not fun to read.

I’ve only read a handful so far, but this is definitely one of the best… Interesting, psychological, drama and details of war.

Another solid Reacher outing, but this one was ugly. MIAs, failing companies, loan sharing, smart wives, a bunch of travel but an ending that left some loose ends. Oh, and we learn Reacher becomes a member of the landed New York gentry, causing him no end of personal angst. A good story, but the dangling ending took away a star.

Have to read it to the end to find the connection and how he ties it all together ❤️ it

Reacher novels are not top tier literature. They aren't meant to be but with a little suspension of disbelief (as we usually allow for with most movies we see) they're still fun stories.Now with that out of the way....It felt like there were fewer action scenes in this book than in the first two books. It seemed to be more detective work to look into the antagonist. That was actually ok with me. The final confrontation was where my suspension of disbelief was stretched a bit. The antagonist had (I thought) a glaring opportunity to take Reacher out but he didn't do it. I'll just shrug and say ok either he didn't think of it and it was overlooked or he just made a bad decision and then I'll go on with my life. There was also a question in my mind about one of the wounds Reacher did sustain in the final confrontation but I'll leave it there so I'm not posting spoilers.

Excellent, fast paced story and read. Excellent author.

Another very good Reacher story that has all my favorite elements. Lots of chasing around from place to place with Reacher working in various jobs. Great female co-star, and great action for the wrap up.

Nobody quite like Reacher so I will start rereading the series after this visit. I read these books in another lifetime and they still come out the best. Reacher is totally addictive ,be warned if you start reading the compulsion to read another will take over.

I enjoy the jack reacher series and this is one edition I missed out on. Great read

My favourite Reacher book. My 3rd time reading it and it's still as good as the first time. Can't wait for season 3 of the TV show. Steve Buschemi as Hook Hobie anyone?
