''From Snapshots to Great Shots'', a Canon 70D illustrated instruction manual by Nicole Young.
I have found that this author, Nicole Young gave an excellent explanation of the various controls and functions of the Canon 70D digital camera. Canon included a basic written manual and a very good in depth DVD. Nicole Young carried the Canon DVD manual into much more detail by showing the end user with both illustrations and text on what these various controls and functions actually do and how to use them for better photographs. This instructional manual is perfect for the both beginner and intermediate user of the new Canon 70D. I highly recommend this book.

N. Young's EOS 70D a must
N. Young's 70D book hits it out of the park. It brings technical use and practical use together in well written and easy to follow explanation of the different modes and menu settings. In short, the book has improved my understanding the functions of the camera and how to attain better photos. NPW

Great book to get your acquainted with your new Canon WOS 70D
I have really enjoyed this book and the exercises that teach you what your camera does and encourage you to put it into use. It's user friendly and includes beautiful photos. I am a firm believer in buying a "manual" for your new camera written by a third party that explains the features and shows you how to actually use them. I was surprised by some of the features my camera has that I would have never figured out from the "manual" that comes in the box. It is very user friendly for someone just getting to know their new Canon DSLR and is not intended to teach you everything you need to know about photography, but it's a wonderful book to get you started.

Very Good Book for the 70D!
The 70D is my 3rd Canon EOS SLR. I have purchased books on earlier Canon cameras by David Busch and Charlotte Lowrie. The Busch and Lowrie books, in addition to being more expensive, also are more of a "this is what you can do" type of a book. In my opinion, the Nicole Young book is more of a "this is what I do and why" type of book which shortens my learning curve. The book is not a rewrite of the Canon Manual and seems more like a classroom where the author is talking to you. I liked it.If I were a true beginner I would say that the Busch and Lowrie books have value, but they spend a lot of time telling you what is in the Canon Manual and add some insights. I think that the Young book brings more insight into equation.

A Bit technical but a great read and I love this book!
A book that goes step by step on how to take the Canon 70D from beginner to professional photographs in the space of one read. Covers various subjects, from candid shots to great photos worthy of a pro. Highly rated for those who want to grow in their photography!

This is a pretty good beginners book
This is a pretty good beginners book, but I felt it was lacking. Lots of time spent on photo basics without really exploring the camera. The pretty pictures as examples were nice, but there were instances where the same pic was used again, and nothing to be learned.I also recognize that perhaps this book was an early attempt to get one of the first books out on this camera, which might explain the lack of detail on wireless use, and absolutely no mention of one of the very handy features, the Canon app which can control the camera remotely with an iphone (I'm not sure about android).Actually I found the Dummies book more useful for the info that someone getting the camera out of the box wanted. Hint: Do not tell someone who has bought your book to go to page 64 in the Canon manual for further information. That's not why I bought your book. Mahalo.

Book covers Technicals and Photographic Tip Equally Well.
This book will help you understand the camera and why you should set your settings a particular way. It is a nice blend of the two in an easy to read format.

A solid review of the foundations...
A solid review of the basics of using a 70D. I'm late to the game and decided to buy a used DSLR and was looking for a non-manual type book. The strength of the book is in the images which give you a break from all the technical language that comes with most manuals. Not earth-shattering material but just what you need to get started and then some.

Excellent source for beginners and enthusiasts alike
Just what I wanted and needed to get restarted with photography. Excellent source for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Step by step examination of the camera and what it can do, as well as specific recommendations about setup and then a chapter by chapter approach to learning more and being creative. Young provides samples of her own images along the way that highlight her exposition and her rationale for each shot. Easy to follow and worth returning to again and again for help when needed.

Excellent handbook even for photographers with a bit of experience - great introduction to making the most of your camera
I've been interested in photography for many years on and off and owned a series of SLRs from film to digital. Therefore most of the information in this book was not new to me. However having it clarified, or being reminded, of how to make use of the various camera settings is very useful. I realised that I was not making use of the white balance, and exposure modes as much as I should, probably partly because my techniques had not changed much since the move from film 10 years ago.If you just want to know how to work the camera the manuals are fine. If you actually want some advice on how to use it and apply the various settings then this is an excellent introduction. The author has a nice style and the presentation of the book and the photos included are attractive. I would think this book would be useful for people with other dSLRs too, not just the 70D, although the technical details are obviously aimed at this model.
