The third book in the series that began with the Newbery Medal–winning Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan. Anna has done something terrible. She has given me a journal to fill. "It's your job now," Anna says as she hands Caleb her journals, asking him to continue writing the family story. But Sarah, Jacob, Anna, Caleb, and their new little sister, Cassie, have already formed a family, and Caleb fears there will be nothing left to write about. That is, before Cassie discovers a mysterious old man in the barn, and everything changes. Everyone is excited about the arrival of a new family member—except for Jacob, who holds a bitter grudge. Only the special love of Caleb, and the gift he offers, can help to mend the pain of the past. Review: Teaches Powerful Lesson About Family Estrangement - I really appreciate that this book tackles a difficult topic - family estrangement - and doesn’t encourage the modern ideas of “victim mentality” and “fragility.” The attitude that there isn’t any point in dwelling on blame and that “what happened happened” and “maybe it’s time to forgive and move on for the sake of family unity” is very refreshing in this day and age when it feels like many people cut one another off (especially blood relations) the moment they feel “triggered.” Enjoyed teaching this book to my fifth graders! A quick and easy read that teaches powerful lessons and encourages rich discussions. Review: beautiful - This story is just beautiful. It is a story of love patience and forgiveness. It shows compassion and how life should be.

I ordered this book for the students in my third grade class. They had read and enjoyed Sarah. Plain and Tall so I wanted to continue the story with them. They enjoyed this book even more. It has a more in depth plot with more action. I believe my students had a deeper connection to the characters in this story. Will read it again next year!

Lovely story continues.
Easy read. Great for students in 3rd-5th who enjoyed Laura Ingalls and Caddie Woodlawn. Something that can be enjoyed in a day or over a weekend.

Sequel to Sarah Plain and Tall
I liked the whole book. It moves like the first book. It is easy for kids to read. The need to read about a different time of our history. I t makes you think about your parents and how anger plays a part in this story and can change people.

A great read for kids
We're in the middle, but its a good book for 7-10 year olds, or even eleven. It's also a good book for improving reading skills. Much to our surprise, we find out that the visitor is actually Jacobs father (the kids grandfather). How this plays out, we have to find out.

What a delightful series!
Series starts with "Sarah, Plain, and Tall", then "Skylark", "Caleb's Story", "More Perfect Than the Moon", and "Grandfather's Dance". Such a delightful series! A bit like the "Little House" books. Written by a descendant of the the family in the books. People list them as beginning at 8 years old; I would say an early reader would like them at 7. Tragedy is dealt with in a sensitive and moderated way. My only objection is that in the ones I have nowhere inside or on the cover do they indicate the chronological order of the stories.

Sarah,Plain and Tall、Skylark
