"2 days is industry standard but 3 days is money"
Watch this if you just got dumped! (some spoilers below) This will make you feel slightly better. Its about a guy (Favereau) who just broke up/dumped (same thing) with his long time girlfriend and yearns to get back together with her (you know, you been there, he's checking his phone messages, praying that she leaves a message). This was filmed before cell phones were ubiquitous. His best friend (Vaughn) encourages him to go out on the "game", partly to help Favereau forget about his girlfriend but also partly for his own selfish reasons, as he wants a "wingman" to help him score. They decide to go Vegas to gamble and to pick up women but all Favereau can think about is his ex girlfriend. He has a chance to get laid with some cocktail waitress but ends up talking to her about his ex-girlfriend. Its so bad that he even uses the phone in her friends trailer to call her and in the meantime, cockblocks Vaughn. Anyway you get jist, the guy can't let go. He's talking about her non-stop, because he is still in love with her. While playing golf he tells his other friend, Livingston that he hasn't mentioned her once today.Vaughn together with Livingston persists in trying to get Favereau to get over his girlfriend, playing videogames, going to parties and bars. One hilarious moment is when Favereau tries to pick up this girl at a party and the first thing she asks him "is what car he drives".Favereau's reluctance to let go ultimately annoys one of Vaughn's friends who speaks the truth and calls him a "whiny little bitch who hasn't got laid in a year". Favereau then plucks up the courage to call a girl (on the same night, ignoring the 2 days industry standard) whom he picks up in a bar, only to be cut off by her answering machine many times. He continues to leave messages, telling her about his relationship and even at one point breaking up with the girl he just picked up. The girl ultimately picks and tells him not to ever call again.Favereau then slips into despair and spends 2 days in his apartment reminiscing about his girlfriend. Livingston then visits him and reminds him his glass is half full and tells him to get over his girlfriend. Its only when Livingston recounts his break up experiences, that Favereau finally wakes up.He then goes out with the guys and back on the game, where he picks up the gorgeous, young Heather Graham at a bar.If you just broke up with your girl (no guy admits he's been dumped) then you should watch his. It may not ease the pain, but hopefully it will wake you up.

Why were they friends with Mikey?
The first time I saw Swingers was at a screening in Chicago before it was released. Before we went into the theater there was this guy standing outside who just seemed cool somehow. It of course turned out to be Vince Vaughn and, although he was unknown, he stood out in the crowd as he did in the movie.I had not seen the movie in 15+ years and I noticed this time around that I really disliked Mikey. What's to like about this guy? He's not fun or funny, he's a constant wet blanket who ruins everyone's fun, he never stops complaining, he has nothing going for him but he STILL acts cocky and superior to the various women he meets. I was actively rooting against him. Mikey sucks.Luckily all of the other performances save the movie. Plus, it has a heavy dose of nostalgia and I love a good indie film success story. Can we make a special edition that removes Mikey and is just the other guys having fun?

It's so "Money"
You gotta love Vince Vaugh. He's so "money", as his character repeats positively about anything that catches his fancy. The story is simple enough: Vince's character (along an assortment of buddies) try to cheer up Jon Favreau's character, as he has been unconsolible since he left his girlfriend of 6 years. And who are the boys and their scene? Well, for starters the boys dress like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin; they soak up martini's in smokey "lounges"; pick-up "honies" and "babies"; and support each other with a demented but ultra-loyal mix of a 4th-grade mentality and grown-up drama. Of course, while Jon's character ultimately has the epiphany that is smart to let go, to move on, and find a new life, it is Vince Vaugh who wins the spotlight, as the loveable, loyal smartypants. Totally admire Vince's acting; his clever-smooth talking wise guy-wannabe does the trick. The movie, though a tad slow moving, is actually smart and such a nice alternative to the commercial and high-speed chase drama of common day cinema. "Swingers" is great! It's a classic. It's a laugh riot. And it is totally in my DVD collection. Can't wait for more Vince Vaugh......he's so "money."

Fantastic movie only you can answer the question to buy the HD version.
Swingers is a phenomenal movie from the 90's that reflects the part of the style of the time. More importantly it show a guys perspective of a break up and then trying to get back into dating. You have probably see this movie already so you know this stuff so the real question would be should you spend the money on the HD version. So the HD movie, yeah its not really HD it looks like the DVD I have. Im not disappointed, I own the movie on DVD but really didnt want to leave my bed to find it that night. Your not going to get improved quality in this so it will just come down to do you want to have a disc floating around or buy the streaming version? Only you can answer that part.If you havent seen this movie. SEE IT. Its Favreau and Vaughn at some of their best, they were money then and they didnt know it. Oh and be prepared to cringe in horror for the answering machine scene.

i shouldn't love this movie
i shouldn't love this movie. for 3/4 of the film I hated it, almost. but i wanted to see how it would end. so i had to concede the story and characters had me hooked. i'm an old school soul sister, alright? this is definitely a "guy" film in the best sense of the word. a white guy culture film for sure--and on the money sweet. very natural acting. realistic to the utmost possible. believable and honest and sincere. no pretensions. the characters are pretentious because they're supposed to be. average guys trying to seem hip and cool. any guy of any race could relate. i could relate because this film showed how guys think and feel during a breakup and how their friends support them. very funny in the last 30% of the film. priceless. i'm so glad i hung in to the last portion of the film. well worth it in every way. the first comment on this page nails all the reasons one should watch this film. thought i'd add my two cents.

I really, really like this film . . . but I don't know why.
I enjoy this quirky movie quite a bit, and get more out of it with each subsequent viewing. Okay, so it's got Vince Vaughn playing yet another semi-obnoxious lothario. It's got a displaced New Yorker who is -- SURPRISE! -- neurotic and whiny, something we've only ever seen in almost every single Woody Allen film (amongst others). It's got the Token Cool African-American Friend Who Doesn't Have That Many Lines. Yet at the same time, this was actually Vince's FIRST semi-obnoxious lothario role (which no doubt set him up for being cast in further such roles), and his character does redeem himself by being sincerely concerned about his friends, going above and beyond the call of duty to help them. The Neurotic Displaced New Yorker actually grows as a person with the help of his friends, and becomes balanced and likeable. And the Token Cool African-American Friend STAYS cool throughout the film without any over-the-top comedic cracking of the veneer during stressful moments. The music is excellent, especially if you're into Swing, Big Band, and Jazz. I think it was the music (and the attendant anachronistic zoot suits) that caught my fancy on the first time through, and the plot and characters kinda grew on me in subsequent viewings. The excessive use of pseudo-hipster slang either enchants you or grates on your nerves; it's not a take-it-or-leave-it part of the film. Personally, if I hear anyone using "money" as an adjective ever again, my first response will be physical violence. And that's the ONLY reason I haven't given this film full marks. But it IS a fairly big reason for me.Still, this is one of those films where the popularity and fan base started out slow and small but grew to cult status with exponential speed. Like most cult films, it's realistic(ish) and a Thought-Provoking and Irreverent Commentary on Aspects of Modern Society, but it's nowhere near as "gritty" as most cult films. In other words, it's in colour, it doesn't have a depressing ending, and there are no supremely wise taxi drivers dispensing zen-like wisdom. Also, not a lot really happens in the film, but it plays so much like the better kind of fly-on-the-wall Reality TV show that it's easy to get sucked into the (admittedly thin and rambling but engaging) plot. It's got loads of homages to other popular films, TV shows, and whatnot. It's very well-written, very well-acted by all involved, it looks really good, and (apart from hearing "money" and/or "baby" every 20 seconds) it sounds really, REALLY good. "Swingers" is one of those small, independent films which far outclasses most of the big-budget blockbusters, and launched a LOT of promising and successful careers. The behind-the-scenes documentaries are good for watching through ONCE, to get the stories behind the making of the film, but are so full of self-congratulatory back-slapping and gag-reflex-inducing mutual appreciation that you probably won't want to watch them ever again. The "Swing Blade" short film included in the bonus features, however, I could watch again and again and again until my eyeballs shrivel; it's hilarious! However much fans of this movie rave about it (and I count myself as one of those), "Swingers" admittedly isn't going to be to everyone's taste. I would recommend renting it first to see if it's your kind of film, and if it is, THEN buy it. It's an exceptionally good kick-back-and-relax film to watch while downing a few cocktails, either alone or with your friends.

I don`t understand why this DVD gets good reviews. It starts with Jon Favreau whining over a break up. We`ve all been there and that`s what people do in their 20s and early 30s. Then the whole gang goes to bars, to a party to Las Vegas, get laid and, thank god, the film ends.Even though it is said and I quote the flick is "painfully funny" I didn`t get it especially the "painfully" part. Waste of time! And please no one calls Jon Favreau "handsome" as Heather Graham called him. Let`s not make this world more confusing than already is.It would be more appropriate to call Vince Vaugham "sickly sweet" or Ron Livingston "cute".

A great little gem
I discovered this movies many years ago, when it was released on VHS in the Sates. It arrived to Italy years later, and it was already a classic to me. Over the years, Doug Liman lost his touch, but here you can see a young filmaker and a couple of future Hollywood stars as fresh as they will hardly be since then. Swingers is not just the story of some young fellows who want to make it in move business, it's the story of those 3 people who made a low budget movie and made it because of it. It's free cinema, not just independent, but free as you can breathe freedom and lazyiness and easy living in L.A. when you are young and all you want to do is hanging around, living day by day and even more night by night. It's miraculously makes you live and feel that atmosphere and that approach to life. In a funny, easy going way

If the the inbetweeners were money.
One of my favourite movies. Considering every weekend all over the world men try to pick up women in bars, you would think there would be a ton of movies about this universal culture.. but weirdly there isn't. Swingers depicts this aspect of life with great detail, dialogue and humour, without going for the cheap laughs', that you might expect from the movies title. It's slick style will make you want to buy a bowling shirt and chain wallet, drink cocktails and smoke cigars. Your so money and you do to even know it.

Love this film
First watched this back in 1998. After having lived in LA for a while, i can relate to the weird and wonderful life of a wanna-be-actor can be like, particulalry on the hollywood scene. I find parts of the script just fabulous. recommend this to anyone.
