Works perfectly, plug-and-play on Macbook; doesn't feel like Macbook keyboard, but nice and quiet.
Bought this because my Macbook'd keyboard became unusable (butterfly key problem). Plugged it in and it worked perfectly – no setup or config required. I appreciate it has the Mac layout instead of some of the other hybrid keyboards with Windows keys. I also like the subtle backlight on the keys – it's not overpowering, and mimics what I'd expect for Mac. The keys themselves are a bit too deep for my tastes, but I'll get used to that. The keys are relatively quiet, which I really appreciate (I hate 'clicky' keyboards). The space bar is a bit louder than the other keys, but that's okay. I also like that it's wired, since I don't have to worry about using disposable batteries, battery life or lag, like is often reported with other keyboards. It's nice and compact, without unnecessary borders, so it will be perfect for travel. I was confident in this purchase because I've bought other Macally peripherals in the past (a separate number pad and a usb hub) and they were excellent: high quality, reliable (both still work fine after many years), and were also effortless to use, with no weird drivers or unnecessary installers. I noticed other reviewers have mentioned that some keyboard shortcuts don't work for them, but mine doesn't have that problem at all. Perhaps Macally has updated the keyboard to fix those issues, or perhaps I lucked out and they got a defective product, I don't know – but my keyboard has been working just fine. I'm very happy with this purchase, and I highly recommend this keyboard. 5 Stars.

I LOVE this Keyboard
I'm using this keyboard with a mid-2010 MacBook Pro and it's everything I was hoping for. I love older computers. I grew up with them, I find nostalgia in their use makes me happy - I can also crack open a notebook case and change out an aging battery without needing an engineering degree and specialized tools. Plan on using it as a portal to the home server, but I wasn't exactly crazy about continually using the stock keyboard. "What if I could expose a different keyboard to cheeto dust and cookie crumbs instead?!" I thought to myself before embarking on the search for something which could take the brunt of my snacking abuses... MacAlly has been around for a long time, and this keyboard shows why. The keys are great with just enough give and "clickyness" I don't feel like I'm typing on a piece of cheap garbage. I've bought other keyboards, full size, RGB lit, bells and whistles thrown about in the descriptions - they don't feel as nice to use as this little gem. The keys have a slight indent which looks and feels proper, like someone took the time to design this nicely. The whole unit feels solid. It doesn't creak or flex, has good rubber feet underneath, and the color matches well enough with the silvery-aluminum and black keys of the MacBook Pro. It's just about the same size as the keyboard on the MacBook Pro too, funny enough. Illumination is well done with three choices of brightness and access to keyboard functions is pretty simple. A couple of key presses and you can adjust brightness of your computer display or volume as example. The keyboard as a Mac-centric product works VERY well in the Apple OS X environment. I've used it in Snow Leopard, Yosemite and High Sierra versions. I'm assuming it'll work just as well from Mojave through to Sonoma OS versions, but I just haven't felt the need to buy a new Apple product since 2016 so I couldn't reliably verify. Anyhow - Yes, I feel this is VERY well done keyboard. I would recommend it to anyone looking to either replace a stock Mac keyboard with a more petite version that gives you backlit illumination as a perk, or as a sacrificial stalwart against exposing your notebook's keyboard to the grime of life and crumbly bits of regretful late night nibbling. Highly recommended. The Price Point at $40 bucks as bought I find fair considering it works, works well, and seems like it's well built enough I'd expect it to keep working for some time.

Great Keyboard!
I decided I needed a lighted keyboard & this replaced my aged Apple wireless keyboard. The backlighting is a great addition & I'm glad I bought it.

Surprisingly good!
Wow. I was actually very impressed by this. I had a Macally keyboard that is not backlit, so I bought this one as an upgrade. I honestly do not like my old Macally keyboard that much -- the keys on it are very dead. I use it solely because it has a "laptop-style" key layout (four keys to the left of the spacebar) rather than an ANSI key layout (three keys to the left of the spacebar). That way, I only have to develop muscle memory for one keyboard style. I was expecting another "dead" keyboard -- just backlit this time. However, I was surprised when the keys had a bit of push to them -- it was a much better typing experience. It is not like typing on a high-end mechanical or anything like that, but it is still a very good, much improved typing experience. Given the price, I thought the keyboard was outstanding. If you're used to using a high end mechanical keyboard, this keyboard will be disappointing. But, for the rest of us, if you're looking for a low-cost, backlit keyboard with no number pad and a "laptop style" key layout, you'll be happy. And, even for those who are used to mechanical keyboards, if you're looking for a cheap keyboard to take to public events or when traveling, this *might* be an acceptable option. The keyboard is designed for Mac users, and the key layout is the same as the keyboard on recent model Macbook Pros, except that the function keys are half-sized (as shown in the product photo). There are Mac-style icons on the function keys if you find those useful.

As good as it gets for $40, or even twice the price.
Let's get the 'bad' out of the way first: (Updated after connecting it to the M4 Mac mini) New: I liked it so much, I bought an extra one as a spare. I just started using it after sitting in the box for more than a year and a half. It has some partial loose inside, as I tilt it left/right. • The description shows 'integrated "kickstand"'. It's misleading. Would your bicycle's kickstand stick out all the time? The keyboard is designed to sit at an angle and is not adjustable. • There is no pass-through USB port, so either use a RF/Bluetooth mouse or use up another USB port. • The paint job sure looks like anodized aluminum, but it's painted injection-molding plastic. Nothing wrong with that, because the keyboard does dit squarely on the table surface and it's solid. • The illumination on the bottom and top row are not as bright as the ones in between. At a glance, I thought it was the font being smaller, but if you look at the cursor arrows, you, which has a larger glowing area, you will notice it's indeed dimmer. Again, not a huge deal. • It's a bit weird that the top and bottom keycaps are convex, but the more-frequently-used QWERTY keys are concave. • I wish the cable were detachable, because the 5' cable is still too long for my situation. • I wish the three indicator lights were shielded from the normal white LED, because those lights should be either dark or green, but because they are not shielded, it's slowing white. • Unlike the numeric-keypad-less mechanical keyboard, where the cable could be routed to the center, left, or right, this one comes out of the right (located in the back, between the F9 and F10 keys). Maybe a drawback for some. Now, the good: • I have been typing on the Macally keyboard writing the above. I can say that all of the keys have consistent feel. I remember buying another S-brand that has aluminum construction, but a few keys were either stuck or the pressure was inconsistent. This one is 40% less in price and works much better. • The function keys and layout are identical to the Mac's, so it operates identically as the regular Apple keyboard. • The four rubber feet are high quality and keep the keyboard firmly on the surface. They are 1" wide each. • May I say 'It just works and works well'. • A good Apple alternative, for those who want a USB keyboard.

Type in the dark
If you work on a Mac late into the night or in dim lit areas, this compact keyboard is a god send. Quiet keys with a nice touch. Just don't accidentally spill a full cup of coffee over it like I did. It won't survive that. I now keep beverages far away from my newly reorder keyboard.

Excellent MAC Replacement!
Excellent solution for people with low vision. Nicely backlit. Keys feel very nice. Even better than the flat keys on the original MAC keyboard. Layout the same as MAC. Could not be happier with this product.

It WAS Great but now it’s NOT!
It worked great until it didn’t. We’ve had this keyboard for about 13 months. For the first 7 months or so, it sat brand new and unused because we didn’t need it yet. Once we completed training and were ready to use it, it worked great for about 6 months of consistent use. It has been on life support every since. The back light randomly goes off and the keyboard intermittently stops being recognized by our system. To get it working again we must reboot our system. This is seriously slowing down our progress. Ain’t nobody got time for all that rebooting. We were reluctant, but we may have to bite the bullet and purchase the original Mac keyboard. We own a full sized Macally as well and pray the we don’t have the same problem with it down the line. I’m not saying don’t buy it. You WILL love it at first, but know it may end up breaking your heart down the road and cause you to investment more cash than you intended. It was great, but now it not.

Highly recommend
I had looked for so long for a wired, Mac backlit, keyboard this size and almost gave up. Then finally one for a decent price. I’ve been using this for more than six months now. The backlight works perfectly and has different dimness levels, it’s the perfect size for my small desk and so easy to use, just plug and play. Very comfortable and high very quality.
