When I bought this water dispenser I was looking for something simple and easy to use
I wish I could give this above a 3 star rating. The reason I wouldn't consider a higher rating for this is because I've found a rust spot inside only after a few months of use. When I bought this water dispenser I was looking for something simple and easy to use. This one mostly fit what I wanted, but it does have some issues I took care of. I did buy a new spigot because I liked the aesthetics and function of another style. I didn't try the one that came with this dispenser so I can't comment on whether or not it leaked.Pros: It's easy to assemble and use. The walls are very thing so the spigot must be tightened securely. The spigot and gaskets also seem to be designed for a thicker walled glass or porcelain crock dispenser, but they do work with this one.No electronics to go bad like some units with hot/cold water. It's fairly cheap depending on where you put it. Add a stand like I did and you add about $40 to the price.Cons:The metal walls are very, very thin, and the edge the white plastic ring sits on is not rolled over, and is sharp. (Be careful when cleaning. This caused me to remove a star from the rating). I would have liked to have seen this edge rolled over to prevent this. I have read at least one review where this resulted in the white plastic ring cracking. I addressed this issue by purchasing door guard trim and placed it on the top metal edge. I was concerned at first about using automotive rubber, but the water level never reaches the rubber trim. The water level always sits at the neck of the water jug, an inch or so below the trim. It's too light. This might not seem like an issue, but the dispenser slides about too easily when trying to insert a new water jug, or even when getting water when the water level is low. I once again addressed this issue with the rubber door trim. It was almost too tall to fit on the bottom edge, but it fits. Now it doesn't slide about on the 30in tall stand I bought. It stopped being cheap. Setting this up like I wanted cost about as much as a water dispenser with hot/cold water. This is not how everyone will set this up, but I did read many reviews where people replaced the plastic spigot for a metal one, and bought stands as well. For me the total cost was $34.44 (dispenser) + $39.98 (stand) + $13.95 (metal spigot) + $3.49 (spare plastic ring) +$11.72 (door guard trim) = $103.58Rusting already? I received this dispenser 17 December 2016 and as of today (25 March 2017) I have found one small rust spot inside the dispenser. . .Not too thrilled about that.Extra stuff I bought that I talked about in my review:Wooden Standhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006WCLGJO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Door Guard Trimhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BWKCUAO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Metal Spigothttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IX87W1Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1Spare Plastic Ring (It's thicker and doesn't fit with the rubber trim installed)https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ZK9ANQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Good quality but higher maintainence
I just bought this item as an alternative to a standard ceramic crock. I have always used ceramic in the past and there is nothing wrong with the ceramic. They have proven themselves over time to be very hearty, durable and easily cleanable. However I just wanted to try the stainless steel model for it's lighter weight and durability because we Tend to move things around a lot. And I'm just a big stainless fan.Upon arrival it was in very good shape. The construction is hearty. I would say 16-18 gauge steel and very lightweight in comparison with the previous ceramic ones I have used. Here are some the differences I have taken into account. - The edges Are a little sharp. the bottom edge where the plate and sidewalls are connected create a lip that is sharp on the bottom. I would recommend setting this on something to avoid scratching your countertop. The top edge is also sharp but comes with a beefy plastic ring that will allow your water bottle to sit comfortably without scratching. The spigot is plastic and installs easily. I recommend tightening it snuggly by hand enough to avoid leaks.- another concern vs. ceramic is that this is made from two pieces of steel rather than one solid piece On the inside where the bottom and the sides join there is a small groove similar to the inside of a #10 can. A ceramic crock is smooth inside and is easily cleaned. this groove may present a problem area for Some. Yes clean filtered water Goes in but because of the air gap between the top of the crock and the neck of the bottle algae growth can and will happen. keep an eye on this. You should clean inside any crock frequently, usually between bottles. An extra toothbrush and a spritz of vinegar or bleach once In a while hould keep it clean.- The weight. The plus side of this crock is that it is very light. Although that may be a problem when refilling with a new Bottle. The weight of a ceramic crock usually keeps it in place. This one must be firmly anchored so it does not slip.- aesthetics. Stainless, as pretty as it is, usually shows fingerprints and watermarks easily. So you may have to clean this more often than a typical ceramic crock. In the end this is a great product but unless you're just looking for stainless to match your kitchen or the lighter weight they're largely the same product at the same price. It may be a little higher maintenance but it's well worth the quality if you choose to go this route.

Almost fit the bill, but seemingly deficient in important ways.
I ordered this as a gift for my wife to encourage her to drink more water. It was just the right size to fit our refrigerator, and big enough to prevent the hassle of constantly refilling on a daily basis. It arrived in good condition, and does not leak. However, I was hoping that the plastic ring was actually a depressed lid - it wasn't. Well my bad, except I have no way to order a lid from the other models, so now am stuck without a good way of covering the unit in the fridge. I am glad I haven't ordered a water bottle for it yet. The main issue I now have though is that I no longer trust this company. This dispenser is represented as being food grade 304 stainless steel. This is the same grade used in expensive cookware and utensils. However, 304 stainless steel is austenitic, which means it is not magnetic. There are ferritic stainless steels, which are magnetic, but by definition 304 stainless steel is not. The only way to make it magnetic is in a poor manufacturing process of welding or cold-working. I don't believe that happened to this product because the bottom is NOT magnetic, and that is connected to the sides of the dispenser with the only seam the product has. The sides are strongly magnetic far from this seam, while again, the bottom is not. So now I have my doubts as to whether the spigot is really polypropylene - maybe it is just cheap plastic with BPA. So now I believe a March 2017 reviewer who said they found a spot of rust in this unit after only a few months of use. That is a deal breaker for me. Otherwise I would probably keep it, but now I'm afraid it has to go back assuming my wife doesn't stop me. I really wanted to like this unit because it seemed it would fit the bill, but now I feel I was deceived by this seller into buying something less than ideal for its intended use.
