A solid long-haul pack
I purchased this pack nearly a year ago, and since then I have put about a hundred miles (or so) on it. Let me give you the rundown:Pro’s: This pack is a solid piece of equipment. Well made, well stitched and tight. I have yet to hear a creak or squeak. A few of the zippers can be a bit grabby, but I can live with that. This pack can hold (and) carry 80 L plus. With a floating, removable, top pack, you can even strap a bear vault to this pack and extend the capacity by 7 plus more liters. Took this pack on a extended trip through the Indian Peaks Wilderness and it carried all my gear plus a number of items for my three teenage sons. Although at times I wished for lighter pack, it handled the load very well. The front panel excess is fantastic. I have never liked the “dig from the top down” design of most internal frames, and being able to get at anything via the front (and the side and the bottom) of the pack is awesome. This pack fits and rides like a dream. I hauled over fifty pounds on a recent trip (had to help another hiker), and although I was hauling more than I wanted to haul, the pack felt beautiful. It locks right on to your hips and stays put.The adjust as-you go suspension system works really well. Once adjusted (which was e-z), this pack fit right with my center of gravity and did not shift around.Con’s: This pack is heavy, coming in much closer to 6 lbs then 5.5 lbs. It is designed to carry 80 L (plus), so this should come as no surprise.Nature abhors a vacuum… This pack is not, IMHO, a good choir for an all-around pack. As backpackers we have a tendency to fill up the space that we are given, and this pack will certainly encourage that. For trips around 1 to 3 (or MAYBE 4) days I use a 65 L (either an external frame by Alps Mountaineering or the Osprey Atmos 65) pack. For long hauls and carrying stuff for other hikers (like my kids), this is my go to pack.Bottom-line: If you are looking for a solid, well-fitting long-haul pack, the Coyote 80 will serve you very well.

Great for urban travel and on the trail
It is just what I needed. I bought this mostly for international travel (planes, trains and automobiles). I am 6'0" (183cm) and I feel like this is the max size I could carry before it gets to be too much to negotiate on buses and subways. I am super happy that I didn't get the 65L. I might get one of those for the wife. The material is a compromise between weight and durability. It held up well as checked baggage, but I can imagine that holes could be scuffed through the fabric. Given the size of the pack, I am dread to think how much more weight would be added if it had thicker materials. The bottom, middle and top loading are very handy. I use packing cubes to keep clothes and gear organized and they really complete the system. The detachable brain bag turns into a sling and it is nicer than I expected. It isn't setup to be a hydration daybag, so I had a separate daybag anyway. I checked this bag with the brainbag attached and carried my other daybag onto the plane. If I was camping, the brainbag could be very useful for short jaunts from basecamp. I would just use a water bottle or bag instead of a bladder.

I realized after I bought it that it is pretty big to use all the time
I have had this bag for a few months now. I used it once for camping. I realized after I bought it that it is pretty big to use all the time. So I just ordered the Redwing 40 womens back pack. I think Ill be happy using it more often. I am going to still try to use this other bag for camping with my family. It definitely holds a lot of gear. Absolutely love Kelty brand and the design of their hiking bags. If you are an avid camper and hiker I would say this might be a great choice. Lots of space and good for a multi day hiking trip. :)

Love this Pack
My husband and I bought Kelty Coyote backpacks before a ten day BWCA trip. We found them to be extremely comfortable and highly customizable for our needs. The grab loops and gear loops all over made trying to lift the packs out of a canoe in water or off the ground in general SO much easier than the other packs we had to carry on this trip. Our more difficult portage trails were a good test on comfort and stability of this pack, I have nothing negative to say. You can get into the pack from the top, front and bottom which was awesome when you needed rain gear, food or other gear in a pinch without having to dig and then repack the whole pack. The little stash pockets all over are awesome for the little items like bug spray, sunscreen, knife, TP etc. The packs had to sit in a little bit of standing water in the boats and rain, our gear inside was still dry after. The only thing I can say is that the larger zippers tend to be a little tough to work with at times but if it stays functional and keeps water out, I can deal with that.

Great backpack
Great pack for the price. Has the “perfect fit suspention system” which needed more than a single tag saying it had it. No explenation at all. I had to go to Kelty website to see what this “perfect fit” was and how to use it. Now that I know what it is, its a great feature. It basically makes the shoulder straps hug your sholders and back so it makes the pack more “ one” with your body. Really helps with comfort and stability.Pack has plenty of room. I’ve tried hammock camping and can not get comfortable. So now I have to take up the extra space with a tent and footprint. I still have plenty of room after the addition of the tent system. It has bottom access for sleeping bag storage. Top and side access for easy access to anything, anywhere in the pack without empying the whole pack. Overall one of the best packs you will find for this price point.

Awesome Pack!
Was in need of a new backpacking backpack and had been eyeing this for a while. I was comparing prices to other stores for this same bag but the best price was on Amazon! When I got it I was so excited. I teach an outdoor education class and was in need of a bigger pack. And this pack is huge! but shrinks down nice! I used it for a day hike to test it out and it was perfect. I then took it on a 2-day backpacking trip with my students and it worked perfectly. It fit all I needed and more. Held up nice and strong. Highly recommend this pack!
