One of the best investments I have ever made - New Comment * Jan 4th, 2016*
***New Comment on January 4th, 2016 after some years of experience with the product***I bought a new one just last week. As some of you might have already read my previous comment, I have purchased two of the same item from the same seller in the past which I still have in my possession. Why I needed a new one? Well, the first two I bought back in 2010, they helped me save a lot of money. I spent most of my work hours outside the office and on the road at the time. As a coffee drinker, I like my coffee really hot (I heat my coffee for an additional 30 seconds in the microwave right after pouring a fresh cup of coffee). I used them daily. They worked fine for probably for a year keeping my coffee really hot for 12 hours first; then, up to 8 hours. After a year, it started leaking coffee. To solve the problem, I filled the thermoses.with coffee and shook it gently for a few seconds. After that, I would remove the cap clean the cap and top section of the thermos, and close it tightly. It seemed working for a while. After two years or so the coffee temperature in the thermos kept dropping further. Now, I work at home and I try to cut down on coffee but I still want to have a new thermos to keep the extra cup of coffee hot instead of leaving it to get cold in the coffee pot or just waste it. Why not make a single cup of coffee instead of two? My measurement is for two 16oz cups which I do not want to change. It is also nice to have a fresh cup of coffee in a second instead of making a new cup of coffee that takes longer than a second not mentioning the fact that I would waste twice as much water and time to clean up the coffee pot and the coffee maker. **************This may be a small item for the claim I have used in my title but it's really true. I am one of those individuals who spends (now, used to) about $10.- a day in coffee stores for two cups of coffee and maybe a small snack with it. I have had done it for such a long time and on a regular basis, I felt guilty of wasting about $300.- a month just in coffee stores. For what? A couple cups of coffee?I use mostly credit cards for purchases and carry only small amount of cash to use for minor things such as coffee. Money was running out so fast and I had to find a permanent solution for it. I have had a thermos many years ago that I bought from one of those big chain stores but it didn't really work, and it was damaged in a short time anyway. I decided to search to see if there was really a top quality brand out there-probably, the kind that is used for camping, etc, which could resolve my concern permanently. I didn't care how much it was going to cost me as long as it solved my problem and save me money in the long run.Two things I considered very important prior to making my decision on the type of great thermos I wanted to buy: 1) Can it keep the coffee hot, fresh and tasty all day long(I am on the road all the time and I don't like to worry about storing milk, sugar etc in a small container; especially in hot days...yes I drink coffee in summer, too) 2) Does it have the size to store enough hot fresh coffee (minimum of 32oz); and is it convenient to carry in my back pack easily?I am the kind of person pay attention to smallest details in things; thus I made days of research prior to buying a thermos. I just didn't want to regret my decision later on. Anyhow, I came across this product on various sites as many pointed out that Nissan thermos was probably the best thermos available out there. I drink my coffee with milk and I really was concern about it. Also, I like my coffee "just right," I can be very annoyed when it is not. I've noticed one person made a comment that adding milk while pouring into the thermos did not make the coffee taste bad after many hours.Okay, so I decided to buy not the largest but two smaller size 16oz ones (an espresso color, and a smoke color) as you see in the picture. I didn't want to carry two everyday; but then, I thought it could have come handy when I wanted to have a hot and cold drink before leaving home for any place other than work (gym, visiting friends in a long distance, etc). Have I made the best decision on that as well! First of all, they are slim you can easily use the side pockets of your back-pack to keep them which is what I do. I can tell you that I usually make coffee early in the morning at 6:00 am. I like my coffee very hot, too. I fill the thermos with hot tap water for a few minutes first while making the coffee, and preparing my breakfast and lunch quickly or I sometimes warm the coffee for another 15-20 seconds prior to pouring into the thermos but that is really not necessary as I have realized lately it doesn't make any difference. I add milk and sugar, too. That's all. The coffee is hot, fresh and tasty for exactly 8 hours as if you just poured it from a fresh coffee pot. On the 10th hour, it is as hot as when one buys a cup of coffee from a coffee shop and adds milk into it which I find...well... not "hot enough" since as I mentioned I like my coffee at the temperature of almost burning my tongue..lol...what can I say? Moreover, I like that you can just flip the top by pressing to a simple switch(button)on the cap. It is so easy rather than removing the cap and then maybe spilling the cofee on you. Moreover, I have noticed during my research some has mentioned that Nissan thermos can leak time to time. That was also a big concern for me. I have to say that I have experienced it, too with the pair I have after some days but I figured the problem out. As some mentioned, the cap may not be put on properly I don't know if that is true or not because I always thougth I put the cap as I always do, and it seems like I put it right. At times, it works after the second try but what I do is my simple test that seems like working. I put the cap and then turn it upside down and shake it a couple of times. If it doesn't leak, it won't leak later on.The result after using it for about four weeks is that I have NOT spent a penny during that time, never stopped at a coffee store (Starbucks or Dunkin's Donuts) once. I prepare one or two bagels with cream cheese or peanut butter jelly sandwiches with two thermoses of coffee before leaving home in the morning. That's all. I have not spent a penny for lunch, either. I have spent about $60.- for two thermoses; in return, I have avoided spending about $300.- in just 4 weeks. Moreover, even on the weekends, it doesn't matter where I am going because I know my coffee is going to stay fresh and hot all day long, I prepare the coffee, and then, leave home. I never waste it. Even if there is left-over after 15hrs, I know it's either warm enough or I can reheat for a minute at home in the late evenings, and drink it. I hardly spend money outside. I also used to spend money after the gym work outs for a coffee and snack or protein drink which is not included to the $10 I mentioned earlier since I haven't been to the gym for a long time. Now, I can prepare cold protein drinks with skim milk as well and save even more. Moreover, I am very busy person and I don't sleep a lot thus when I get home, I stay up late and work on my projects at home. During that time, I used to prepare two pots of coffee before and waste one because after some hours, they would have the burned-taste. Now, I make one pot and pour it into both thermoses and drink throughout late evenings and night and not waste anything at all. Yes, when I am busy and up for long hours, I drink LOTS OF COFFEE. No, it doesn't make me hyper or prevents me from sleeping. When I hit the bed, I am assleep within a few minutes.Anyhow, Nissan Thermos is AWESOME! SIMPLY AWESOME AND save lots of money. Cleaning of them? Nahhh! Not a problem really; just keep it under the running hot water and gently scrub it, it's as clean as the day you bought it including the difficult reachable places under the cap as some claim it's hard to clean....HAVE IT! SAVE LOTS of cash! And enjoy your beverages.Peace out!

Worked well for a while, but not very durable
I ordered this thermos after much research into the best, most waterproof heat-retaining beverage container, back in 2014. It served me very well for about a year-- the top really seals, NEVER leaks unless you really mess up when you're screwing it onto the bottle, and is very convenient to drink from, allowing some nice coffee aromas to escape. The plastic lip is much more pleasant to drink beverages from than the steel rim of other thermos-type bottles I have. This bottle retains heat pretty well-- better than others I've tried-- but hot coffee, when half of it has been drunk, will be lukewarm by late afternoon if the bottle was filled early in the morning. That's fine for me because I usually consume my hot beverage within 3-4 hours of making it, and this bottle definitely keeps it at or near the original temperature for more than that amount of time.Although this thermos served me very well, there are a couple things I didn't/don't like: the bottom piece is made of plastic, glued over a metal rim. I dropped the thermos once on a hard ground surface, and the plastic bit at the bottom cracked badly, in a way that made a sharp bit stick out so I had to cut it off to make the thermos usable, leaving a gap in the plastic base that showed the metal bottom of the bottle that's not meant to be seen.Recently, after 2 years of almost daily use, the plastic flange that the hinge of the top is attached to broke off. It just snapped when I was removing the top to wash the bottle, rendering the bottle useless, so I unfortunately had to throw it away. I couldn't find information about replacement lids anywhere, so I just ordered another, similar item with apparently a better record for durability-- the Zojirushi locking commuter mug. We'll see how that holds up.Now, I know that one is not supposed to put these bottles in the dishwasher, but I dislike handwashing things that can fit easily in the dishwasher, plus I feel the dishwasher removes grime and coffee smells better than handwashing, so this bottle and its lid went in my dishwasher frequently. I don't think this harmed the heat/cold-holding capacity of the item at all, though I do wonder if it weakened the plastic parts some. I believe, however, that the reason the instructions tell you not to put it in the dishwasher is because the colored enamel coating flakes off terribly if you do. I ended up scrubbing the flaking purple enamel off completely with a steel scrubby pad, so I ended up with a decent-looking, dishwasher safe bottle in plain stainless color.Suggestion for Thermos and all other commuter bottle/mug makers: make these things so they can stand up to being put in a dishwasher indefinitely! If one commutes regularly there's a good chance one doesn't have the time/want to deal with handwashing things. And make the base out of metal, not thin plastic that breaks if the bottle falls on the ground.Overall, a very useful product that worked exactly the way it was supposed to, until it wore out-- it seems like something like this at this relatively high price should last longer than 2 years though!

It's ok
All the color came off in the diswasher at 50 C. After thers a scratch and water can get underneath it peels off like an onion. The base is also cracked after dropping it and water collects inside, then drips out when you drink from it, rather unplesant. This is metal on the inside (I'd prefer glass, but can't get that these days)

Great and useful, one little problem
Great and useful, good quality. Only criticism is it’s really easy to accidentally overfill and water leaks out the hinge when you do (or if it’s upside down).

Great High Quality Flask!
Bit on the pricey side (as imported from America), but a high quality product. High spec decoration / print too. Well worth it!

So disappointed !
I thought the thermos brand was safe, but was I ever wrong. My first frustration was the sticker that was on the lid was awful so difficult to remove. While the body was sleek there is no ring or clip to carry the mug. The worst is the design.... what makes it leak prod is a little flimsy metal piece that is sure to break/ bend over time that will leave the mug useless.... the button to open the mug is also very small. After the first day of use it was getting stuck/ not opening the lid immediately - the lid would then pop up after 30 seconds or so... DO NOT get this mug - I have seen better quality with discount store off brands
