I just love this stuff!
I live in Texas, and our soil/dirt is mostly clay. I make my soil using sifted yard dirt, perlite, vermiculite, potting soil, Azomite, Texas green sand, composted chicken manure, sand, and the critical ingredient, coir. I blend all this in my cement mixer and what comes out is magic. My neighbors think I can grow rocks since everything blooms. I have purchased over a hundred blocks now, and I always make sure my inventory is at least 36 blocks. The hottest tap water expands the block, and I let it set in a 5-gal bucket with the lid firmly on for 4-6 hours. When I take off the lid, the block has expanded and is very easy to break apart. I also top dress my plants with coir.Just a word on those comments that say it is too coarse. If I need fine coir for starting seeds, I just sift it and the fine powder is excellent for growing seeds. I have done this for 3 inch pots but use the regular blend for most uses.

The Garden Man
This product is of a high quality for starting seed. I used it here in the Philippines and my seedling germinated on the 4th day. I do organic gardening - By mixing this product with ur kitchen scrapes and other materials you will discover ur plants produce more vegetables. (it works for me) - I recommend this product to anyone who does organic gardening.

Worked well and I like that it is sustainable
I would say that mine expanded a little short of the 10 quarts mentioned in the listing, but the product itself was mostly consistent in texture and provided a happy home for my seeds. I have quite a bit left and plan to use it as a mulch around my tomato plants. I also have liked that it has more body than peat, so it doesn't blow around as easily. I will update my review after having had a chance to see how it works.

great soil additive for peat consistency.
Love this stuff. One small brick expands to a whole bucket full of material. Great for amending existing soil and also for planting annuals in pots.

This coir is too coarse.
I use coir to germinate seeds. This product is very coarse making it a marginal choice for germinating small seeds. The Burpee product is much finer, and I prefer it. This product is far more suited as a potting medium. Had I understood how course this coir was, I would not have purchased it.

Weed Reducer
Used this around my tomato plants & it has done a great job at keeping the weeds down. Will buy again.

Watch Out - This Stuff is High in P and K
Watch out...this stuff is hot and will burn your plants. You need to wash and drain this stuff repeatedly to get the super high levels of Potassium and Phosphorus out of the product. This is supposed to be an inert mix but is not. I lost 6 seedlings in this stuff. Lesson learned the hard way. The customer should not have to spend hours flushing this product. I'll use this to supplement other mixes but this is not a reliable medium for people that want to use it right out of the package (after expanding with water of course). Test this medium for yourself if you doubt what I am saying.

Trying to save some peat moss for the rest of the world I'm using this product in my gardens this year. So far it's worked quite well.
