Q: how tall is the base versus the actual hand?

I don't have any more to measure but my guess is the base is about 1 1/2 inches; the hand 2 inches.. They say they are about 3.7 inches tall so that is my guess. Sorry I can't be more helpful! I gave one to each of my grandchildren when they turn 5.

Q: The problem with plastic trophies is they are too light. Are these hollow and open at the bottom so I can add sand and glue it shut???

I bought these for my grandson's 5th birthday. He & his friends are all visually impaired or blind. With these 5 fingered trophies, they could count the fingers. He still has his on his dresser & loves it. We've never had any problems with its weight, it stands anywhere.
