Depeche Mode's Video Singles Collection is the definitive 3DVD library anthology containing more than four hours of the post-punk pioneers' groundbreaking music videos (and two-plus hours of audio commentary). The 3DVD set presents more than three decades worth of Depeche Mode's international hit singles as lensed for the group's mind-blowing progression of innovative and provocative music videos directed by a who's who of cinematic visionaries including Julien Temple, Anton Corbijn, D.A. Pennebaker, John Hillcoat and others. Video Singles Collection is the first in a series of band-approved retrospective projects examining Depeche Mode's extraordinary career and effect on pop culture and marks the first time that DM's video singles-from 1981 to 2013-have been compiled together in a single anthology. The set includes 55 newly restored versions of the essential video singles in the DM canon in addition to four rare alternate videos and new commentary on specific individual clips, recorded by members of Depeche Mode especially for this release.

Great fun for longtime fans
I'm a pretty die-hard DM fan. Not so much that I've purchased every single DVD compilation that's come out--but definitely someone who's followed their work for a long, long time and who's wanted to have access to good-quality (i.e. not crappy, lossy third-generation-VHS-to-digital) copies of their videos, especially the early material. So I've been looking forward to this release.I won't get too deep into the contents of the DVDs--other reviews will provide you with that information--but I will say that it's great fun watching this from beginning to end and seeing how the band evolved, while also reliving my own memories. As enjoyable as it is to watch those videos again, it's really the commentaries that make this DVD set worth your while. It's especially enlightening when you get more than one band member's perspective on a particular video. And if you are a fan of Martin's laugh, never fear, you will hear it quite frequently. ;) I do wish there were MORE commentaries--because, as noted in another review, not every song has an accompanying commentary. Is the collection perfect? No... The packaging leaves something to be desired--it really is tough to pull the DVDs in and out and feel like you're keeping both the DVD and the packaging in nice condition. And it's not an absolutely comprehensive collection of every video they've made, so if you're a completist you will almost certainly feel like something's missing. It also seems like they could've added more valuable bonus material; the four "rare" videos are really not all that exciting (for example, the alternative cuts of "Stripped" and "But Not Tonight" are basically indistinguishable from the "official" versions, unless you're extremely familiar with the "official" versions and can tell where the changes were made, OR you sit there and analyze them cut for cut). For my own part, I wish that these DVDs included the documentaries from the 2006/2007 remasters; those are harder to find and would've offered more value to the viewer. In short, I'm glad I bought this collection. On a certain level, I wish there was more to it--but for what it is, it's good.

Great collection, bad packaging
Depeche Mode videos are great and some even iconic. One of thE things I love about DM is the willingness to put out a package like this that is career spanning, including those videos DM themselves would rather remain in obscurity (Meaning of Love, for example). Theres not much to say about the videos other than the fact that this is an almost complete package with videos up to Delta Machine, including alternate versions and commentaries on several of them. While it is DVD, you can tell care was taken to make sure this was the best presentation possible, looking good on your HD tv despite how old some of these videos are.As to quality of the content, if you're a DM fan, you'll like them all, even if it's their lesser videos. Their best videos come in Black Celebration era videos as thats where Anton Corbijn comes in, providing DM with a lot of their image that is maintained to the present day. But even when Corbijn steps away, theres some videos like Wrong that are still excellent in their own right. Missing still are some of the pieces from the Strange, Strange Too releases, notably Halo. But hopefully theres a future for these. This release loses a star due to packaging. Its a flimsy cardboard slipcase and you do have to do some work to make sure you get the DVDs out without damaging them. I'm guessing they were trying to produce this in the cheapest way possible as video collections are a niche market, but its the one annoying thing to an otherwise great collection.

Worth investing
A really great if not quite fully comprehensive video collection (it does indeed have all the singles but DM have a few videos for non-single releases too). I really enjoy the commentaries - I just wish there were more but that's me being greedy

A great collection with few great comments
This set of DVDs deliver what is expected: nearly all the videos of the band are there, in very good quality, and that's always a pleasure to explore the career of this wonderful prolific band. It would have been totally overkill to put it on Blu-Ray, as it wouldn't have added anything to the video or the sound, so it's better to have it on a more standard format. The real added value of this collection is the commentaries of the members of the band (Dave, Martin and Fletch - no Vince or Alan unfortunately) on many songs, even if I would have liked to have them for each song, and recorded with all the members together instead of each of them separately. It brings a fresh view on these videos, with some of them (mostly early ones) being quite bad, and provoking laughs and shame from the members of the band! Anyway, there is something very bad with that: there is no subtitle in any language - which makes it sometimes quite hard to understand what they say, especially for a non native English-speaker.
