...so important in the history of music.
Spectacular show from Gary Moore and band. The backing band here is simply great. And Moore's guitar is the absolute star of the show. He proves without a shadow of doubt that he is in the upper echelon of guitarists, he ranks number four in my all time favorite blues guitarists. Behind only Clapton, Green and Buchanan, Moore is fourth. The show features four songs with Albert Collins a highlight of an all time great. As much as I love the American blues players, BB, Albert King, Albert Collins and Buddy Guy, I really think the British blues men were very far superior in style. That may seem like a heresy but that's my own feeling on the subject. This disc features a selection of Moore's best songs particularly "Still Got The Blues," one of his very best. And his rendition of "The Messiah Will Come Again" is a fitting tribute to the aforementioned Roy Buchanan who had died a couple of years before this DVD was filmed. This disc is a must own for any blues lover and this and his other DVD's are so important in the history of music.

Guitar Heaven!
I'm a guitar player of sorts and have been a blues fan for years. ....and have just recently discovered Gary Moore! This DVD is a must have for blues fans and guitarists alike. How good is it? Let me just say that when I first watched this, I thought I had died and gone to guitar heaven! There are many different opinions as to what a "great" guitarist is. I don't know about anyone else, or who gets to say who the "best" is (if there can be such a thing today), but Gary Moore just has to be in the top ten! Why?It's his tone! The sounds he pulls from that Les Paul! His blues phrasing is excellent and refreshing. Incredible note bending and sustain. His version of The Stumble is a masterful demonstration of blues phrasing and a great tribute to Peter Green and of course, Freddy King! Yes, there are the various King influences, but.. .his way of interlacing his phrases with the most searing blues guitar sound that I've ever heard is nothing short of amazing. Still Got The Blues For You is perhaps one of the best blues songs ever written! This whole DVD is blues/rock at it's best.If Gary had not gone into blues, he would have always been a great rock guitarist. What sets him apart (and above) the rest of the great rock guitar players is his ability to grind out the blues. Not everyone can play blues like this. You have to FEEL it--not play it! And boy, does Gary show you how he feels! He draws every ounce of emotion from every single note he plays...especially on "The Return of The Messiah"-- I think Gary Moore has done something very few top rock guitarists can do---create a new sounding blues form with a hard rock edge to it..tough to do with so many "blues" artists around!Get this DVD! It will rock your socks off! It's great and so very cheap(it's actually a steal at this pice)...and the delivery service was fast & hassle free...ordered it on Thursday..at my door the next week on Friday!

Makes you feel it...
There are already some great reviews on this which cover everything from the set list to the incredible guitar work on this DVD. So I'll just briefly touch on what I love most about it...1. Does anyone feel a song more than Gary Moore? I mean he really loves to play, and it shows. From the rockers like Oh Pretty Woman to the slow and sultry numbers like Midnight Blues you can hear and see that this is a man who really loves his craft. That is the art of his playing.2. Don't miss Parisienne Walkways in the Bonus Songs. It's a "heart of the blues" kind of number, and if you've been to Paris you'll feel like you're there again for a moment, and missing a girl. But the real beauty of the performance is in Gary's absolutely stunning guitar work. The band lays down the perfect slow blues backdrop for some very emotional but technically superior guitar playing. This is that rare piece that wows you, makes you feel it, the way only great musical performances do. He builds the solo slowly, then comes to a powerful crescendo, the classic rock solo as described by Eric Clapton. But then he does it again, and again...leaving you spent and feeling like you just heard...the blues. Like you cried your eyes out. Like you just can't take it anymore.3. I try to collect everything Gary Moore has put on a record or DVD. If you have not heard him and love the blues and/or great guitar work (or even think you might!) I highly recommend his music. This would be a great place to start. He proves that the blues are something you feel, not learn. And that you can feel it in Dublin the same way you can in Tupalo. Cheers!

I am a fan of Mr. Moore since his "Still Got the Blues" CD. I bought the 2010 Montreux CD some time back and was a little disappointed. I just got this 1990 concert and am not disappointed with anything on it. You can tell he had more of an edge to his playing then, and it shows. His version of Roy Buchanan's "Messiah" is amazing. By far the best remake that I've heard.

Mr. Moore is one very soulful blues/rock guitarist
Gary's performance is not perfect for this show but it is very good. There is a song or two here where he seems a bit tired and doesn't quite move me like his studio recordings do. But remember the main show here includes 16 songs. On most of the show he plays like a man inspired. Standouts to me are "The Messiah Will Come Again", "Parisienne Walkways" (from the bonus set) and "The Stumble". Albert Collins plays on at least 3 songs here and is an entertaining part of the performance. He and Gary provide some interesting interplay on thier instruments, particularly on "Further On Up The Road" where they appear to be argueing with each other using thier guitars at one point. In case you didn't notice in the track listing, this is a generous package with 19 tracks included. I'm very happy to have this one in my collection.

The best £4.70 i've ever spent!
This DVD shows Gary Moore at the top of his game. He has to be one the greatest rock/blues guitarists ever (he could shred like a monster and was an accomplished Jazzer as well). The songs on here show off his playing and singing extremely well and with Albert Collins as a guest what more could you ask for. Classic tracks such as Still Got The Blues, Oh, Pretty Woman and King of The Blues amongst others just show what an absolute genius he was on guitar. There's also a cracking version of Freddie King's ( and Peter Green's) The Stumble. The absolute pinnacle though is Gary's version of Roy Buchanan's The Messiah Will Come again. His 10 min odd version of this is just electrifying and whenever I watch it I just think about sticking my guitars on a bonfire because why bother? ;-) Highly recommended.

An almost fitting tribute
Gary Moore was an enigma really. He had all the talent in the world, particularly as a guitarist, and to my mind he remains vastly underrated in the "league" of great British guitarists. He also had a propensity to try and cock things up, luckily for him that as much as he pushed Phil Lynott they remained great friends, despite his strops and walk outs. Personally his music is brilliant, and the main feature of this DVD is basically the superb Still Got The Blues album, so if you have that, you'll pretty much know what's here. 16 tracks of Gary's excellent blues guitar playing and his singing is spot on too. Whilst I see what's been done here with adding 3 bonus tracks (from a later Montreux concert in 1997) these don't really cut it. You can see why he rarely did Out in the Fields, as it sounds lost without Lynott, and whilst I love Over the Hills... it's difficult to replicate a made in the studio track live, and here it just sounds a mess, and he forgets most of the words. Parisienne Walkways is a reasonable version but again misses Lynott's touch, although Gary's guitar work is spot on. Gary was a great talent, and is much missed, and this is 80% of a decent tribute to him. Watch and enjoy, but perhaps skip the bonus part!

Gary Moore & midnight blues band Live at Montreux 1990
HiI have seen and heard many famous Blues guitarists over the years.( Mayall, P Green, Eric Clapton) and many 'old masters' from the USA. When I got this DVD, I was simply amazed> Gary Moore is incredible, far better than I ever imagined and he sings too!Played on the Philips 'TV SCreen' 52" with full surround sound x 5 channels, Gary Morre and his band are just awesome! He really does make the les paul 'speak and sing and wail' he is a real Master, in my opinion, better than all those mentioned, except possibly Mr Les Paul himself who was a terric blues player. If you enjoy/play guitar and like blues, trust me you will really enjoy this DVD.Get it from Amazon today.Best wishesAdam Richardson.
