Q: whats the truth is this only a gen 3 drive

It's a gen 4 however the Delta only uses the old gen 3 Phison E16 controller vs the Gamma using the Phison E18 controller so the delta will have only slightly higher speeds than the Gen 3.

Q: Is delta a gen3 or gen4? i'm confused because i see two people saying 2 different things, can someone tell me if this work with the ps5?

Delta & Gamma are both GEN.4 -- there was a packaging error on the initial shipment to AMAZON FBA that had "Gen.3" on the insert, unfortunately. They both work in the PS5, although the Gamma has the preferred Read/Write speeds suggested by Sony.

Q: Will this work with the ps5?

Yes, I installed a Gamma in my ps5 and it read and formatted without issue, though you will need a heatsink for it.

There was a printing error on the inserts that say "Gen. 3" -- it IS a Gen. 4 SSD, and the label on the drive itself says so. It will fit and work in the PS5, although Sony recommends a higher R/W speed for rendering. The Mushkin GAMMA Gen. 4 PCIe NVMe has the speeds that Sony recommends.
