Is the reason for this box to convert unbalanced rcas to a balanced xlr signal? it’s just for defeating possible unbalanced signal noise?

I think most people purchase this box for volume control. It has a high quality potentiometer for this purpose. It will convert an RCA input to a balanced, XLR, output. But it would probably be more cost effective, and space saving, to purchase RCA to XLR cables if that’s all you want to do.

No. It would make more sense to use the headphone output and find a splitter to connect it to your powered speakers.
