Quiet and works great!
I am really loving this skimmer! I have owned many skimmer is the past 12 years of reef keeping and none of performed as well as the Simplicity. The first thing the stands out is the build quality. It's solid and ver nicely put together. I do some acrylic fabrication and can spot a good seam weld when I see one. It took about 5 days to break in and is now really pulling out some nice skimate. Right now, I have to empty the cup every other day. The pump runs very quiet - the only sound you'll hear is from the air silencer. While researching a skimmer for my latest build - I came across the Simplicity brand on RC and then started looking them up. While the performance reviews were good... the customer service reviews were great! I wanted to get a brand that would stand by their product and have replacement parts available. If that's important to you, the Simplicity is the skimmer to go with. The one thing I'd like to see changed is the size of the collection cup on the 120DC. The skimmer works so well that it fills the cup ever other day. It does have a drain in the cup but my sump walls are too tall to utilize it. I run the skimmer in 8" of water and it's fantastic.

Best skimmer ever for the price point
I bought this skimmer cuz' a friend had the same one on a 80 gallon multiple tank system and it was working wonderful, i trust his judgement on equipment, more wonderful is the fact that the skimmer has a 3 year warranty. This skimmer is really a workhorse. On the first days of running it (on the break-in period) and it is already producing a lot of skimmate almost to the top, i havent even adjusted it yet, it is only on the level 1 of the controller and the air valve is fully opened, very impressive, i can't wait that the break-in period ends to adjust it and beggin to produce Skimmate to its full capacity. i had an issue with a broken air intake and didnt want to send all my new skimmer back to get a replacement, so i contacted the seller if they could just send me the part, they helped me out with the issue and sent me a replacement part, im very happy with the costumer service.

Simply Terrible
The idea of DC pumps in Aquaria isn't a horrible one, but when we start adding in more factors to items such as skimmers we add in another item that can go wrong while making the tuning that much more complicated. In this case the Q/C on the pumps and controllers is abysmal. After a month's worth of back and forth with this item with Simplicity, a new pump, various tests, settings and finally charting with my Apex, I've come down to the point that the pump and controller are garbage. Chinese made garbage to be exact. The controller included has a readout for wattage (spent current) which varies widely as low as 9 and up to 20 for mine. This means the pump is going at various speeds whenever it wants. This will cause head pressure inside the skimmer to randomly drop or overflow despite any tuning we may attempt to do. This is a problem with Direct Current in general and square methods of current regulation rather than Sine like German pumps. With A/C the pump is either on or off. While we 'lose' the ability to control pump speed, we gain stability which is the main need in a skimmer for overall head pressure. D/C skimmers are a fad and another failure point. Similarly with the air tuning this another issue which adds to the complication of the skimmer. I want the set air for a set pump and skimmer, not to turn the skimmer into a longitudinal study on underwater fluid dynamics at the expense of having my aquarium turn into the Bayou.Things attempted: Tuning air and gate valve Researching every forum known to man. Barometric pressure reading Researching more than I care to about electricity. New Pump Ritual Sacrifice Turning down pump settings (less flow) Adjusting water height in sump Threat of Lethal Force Wattage monitor 3947235895 emails to Simplicity Prayer to Elder Gods Consulting an electrical engineer. For a company that calls itself 'Simplicity' it has done the exact opposite for this. I'm going with an AquaMaxx tried and true like I had on my 200g ages ago. I wish I could get a refund for this as it stands now it's a 200$ monument of wasted money.

As good or better than the popular brands
This skimmer was a great purchase. And the price was so much better than the big brands you all hear about from other vendors and YouTube videos. I have had several and this thing bubbles out the nastiest thickest slurry I have had yet. If your aquarium is new and you aren’t getting much than give it time. When your aquarium is no longer in the new stage and you are adding more and more fish this thing takes over. I have had 0 phosphates since day one and I rest often. I use it on my mixes reef 50 gallon with 2 gallon sump. Love it so much I am going to buy a bigger one for my 216 gallon fish only tank I am setting up right now. Good job Simplicity.
