FlashForward

Different to the TV series...
This is different enough to the TV series for one not to think they know the ending from the beginning (not that we know the end in the TV series).Set around the CERN facility that borders France and Switzerland, it has Lloyd and Theo as the central characters, the scientists unable to explain the sudden flasforward. There's no FBI or American involvement (a relief to be sure) but the novel feels lightweight. That's good in a way as it's a very easily readable 300 pages, but more could be made of the effects of possibly seeing your future - the fact that the creators of the TV series have brought much more ideas to the screen (I guess they have to fill countless hours) means they get to explore where Sawyer did not go.Interesting. Try 'Offworld' by Robin Parrish as an alternative.

Captivating
This book was an extremely enjoyable read and is particularly good if you have an interest in particle physics. My geeky side thoroughly enjoyed debating the plausibility of some of the physics discussed in the story. There is no need however, to be a physicist to understand the book as it is able to stand alone as a piece of enjoyable fiction.I was prompted to buy this having missed the start of the TV series that aired recently. I did not want to start watching from part way through so thought I would start with the book which came first. I would now go on to watch the TV series as I believe it could be gripping viewing. The author keeps the story flowing nicely throughout with it gaining momentum towards the end. I did not want to put it down at points! Then, it lost its 5th star...

Very disappointing
Read it, didn't like it and gave it to my local charity book warehouse soon after I finished it. The tv series was interesting and this wasn't. The momentum of the story kept getting bogged down by the sheer amount of scientific theory Sawyer chose to include. I have no problem with scientific theory if it included in such a way that the story isn't spoiled by it. Sawyer would have done better to limit the theory, beef up the story/momentum and added a section explaining the science behind the story at the end of the book.

A great book, though not much like the recent TV series
I really enjoyed the recent TV series... to start with. It then got very silly and then got cancelled, which was a great shame for something that had begun so well. This book shares some story elements with the TV series, but is a very different story. It's a good book, though, really enjoyable, with some fascinating dilemas thrown up by the central concept of the "flashforward" (which gives people a glimpse of a specific moment of their future) that has happened once and may - or may not - happen again. Well worth reading.

A Very Good Read
I purchased this book after watching the series on telly and being disappointed that the series was cancelled and the ending never shown. The book was quite a bit different than the show, but in a good way. The author has researched his material, and there were bits when you felt you were wading through some of the 'scientific theories', but overall it was a compelling read with good character development and a heck of a story. It reminded me how much I enjoy science fiction.
