Surprise!
If you told me that I could or should get excited about a friggin microphone arm, you would be crazy! I will caveat this, as this is my first of 1. I have a couple of cheap arms for other things, just not microphones. I DO, however, know quality when I see it. So, I bought the Rode XDM 100 microphone because I plan to start a podcast at some point. I reviewed reviews on about 40+ swing arms and kept arriving at this one, the Rode PSA1+.Let's get this out of the way first. It's one of the more expensive arms, but for the cost difference, the small amount to pay for the upgrade is worth it. The construction is made of high-quality materials. I like that the arm does NOT have a spring on it. Springs tend to make noise when you move them. Rode claims that it is "smooth and silent." I am here to tell you that it is.In addition to the above, I find the following important too:* I have to say that I love the way I can tighten the microphone in place with two opposing and easy-to-use nuts that are formed for your fingers to turn. The XDM 100 is a horse, so it's good to know that once I lock it into place, it will stay put. You don't have to be a powerlifter to crank it down. This brings up another point.* The microphone I have is pretty heavy. I am not sure of the weight. It is slightly lighter than the Rode NT1 5th gen I tried. The arm moved around in all directions, and held it up without fail. I believe it can handle more weight with no problem.* For cable management, four integrated snap-in clamps hold your USB or XLR cable in place, keeping them discrete. The rest is up to you.* The neoprene cover is nice because it dresses up the arm, which is built like any other. There are four bars connected to a pivot point. Two on top. Two on the bottom. It's kind of like a human arm in a sense because of the two bars on the top. Sure, it's a novelty to have the Røde logo on it, but honestly, it looks much nicer than the PSA1, which is basically the same thing without the cover. Okay, $30 for a stupid cover? A little pricey if you ask me, but I am glad I spent the extra $ for it. Shame on you, Røde!* The hardest part about installation was figuring out exactly where to place the base. After that, it only took as long as I needed to twist the screw-on clamp onto my desk and then put the post (at the bottom of the arm) into the hole. DONE. There is no need for instruction because it's just simple to figure out.I don't get super excited over much, but I am more than satisfied with the Røde PS1+. Maybe that's why it has a 4.8 rating over 1,169 customers as of today (6/11/2024)

Amazing boom!
Amazing build quality! They know how to build quality products that are very easy to use! Helps with sound quality so you dont have to hear the movement of the desk its sitting on. Allow for a good range of movement when placing the mic! Fits very will on most desks and surfaces! Very functional!

Works & looks great shelf mounted on the wall to free up desk surface!
I read many reviews looking for comments about mounting this product on a shelf located above & in front of my workspace, but couldn't find any, so I'm providing this review as a courtesy to others looking for the same.I'm pleased to discover that this mic arm works perfectly because it stays put when you retract or extend the mic arm. I was concerned about the weight, but no issues there. The reach length is also great and easily goes downward below the shelf. When I'm not using it, I just push it upward out of the way. I like that it doesn't occupy any desk surface, and I'm not bumping into it with my elbow. Plus the mounting clamp is thick sturdy metal, not plastic.Just be sure if you do a setup like this, that your shelf is secured well to the wall studs and the shelf itself is sturdy. My mic arm is mounted approx. 3ft from where I sit and the shelf is about 2.5ft above my desk. I adjusted the distance of the mount from my desk chair to get it perfect, which is easy to do because the clamp mounting bracket is easy to move. When pushed up, the arm folds & the mic is at the same level as the shelf, and pulled down, the mic is directly in front of my mouth for speaking. I used closet shelving with basic "L" brackets from the big box hardware store for my library because it was cheaper & easier than buying furniture/bookshelves.If I need to, I can switch out the Podmic for a boom mic & it will still work nicely. Overall, the mic setup looks & works great mounted with my library, so I'm glad I spent the extra bucks for a quality product. Plus it matches my Rode Podmic! Thanks Rode. ;0)
