good for price, medium duty
My 2nd try on one of these. The 1st one having a very 'dull' blade. This blade is somewhat sharp and seems to do the trick. Be careful as none of these seem to understand 'inside diameter'. They all measure the outside it seems, so figure about 1 inch small than reported. Do plan on bolting her down to a stump otherwise it will bounce around on you.18 inches is about longest piece you can put in it or it will bind. You will need a 4 pound sledge. I tried a ballpien and it just didn't do the trick. Wear good leather gloves!Pretty good deal on sale and does an OK job. Kind of macho to play with too.... I like that.

Kindling Cracker, not a Wood Splitter
Love it! I go through about 6 cords of hardwood per winter, and occasionally need some kindling. Previously, I'd grab a piece of dry firewood and split off some kindling with a hatchet and small sledge. As each piece split off, it would fly away. After splitting a few pieces into kindling, I'd then crawl around on my hands and knees to collect the errant pieces. It was always a chore I hated. No more crawling around with this baby! I've put the hatchet away, too. I only need the hammer (3#) from now on, so the whole process is MUCH safer. The upper ring catches the pieces as they split off, so it's quick and easy to collect the small pieces. The blade is recessed several inches from the top, so the hammer won't hit it.Others have mentioned the blade is not sharp, but it doesn't need to be. It's a wedge for splitting, not cutting. If you're trying to split whole pieces of green wood, you'll be disappointed. (I have an electric splitter for that.) This device is designed for safely making smaller pieces of kindling from dry medium size pieces, not the initial splitting when cutting and stacking green firewood.

Blade gets hit too easily
Workys well except5 blade height allows hammer to strike it causing multiple bad spots that then need to be grinded.

The only way to split wood/make kindling
This tool, once bolted down on a sturdy surface is the best wood splitter/kindling maker, I have ever used. I have used a lot of other gadgets connected to a drill that was nowhere near the efficiency of this splitter. Go for it.

The only way to split kindling wood
The media could not be loaded. Absolutely loved how easy it was to split wood. Even harder branches split with no worries. If you were splitting allot I would screw it down to a larger log or board just to keep it more stable. To do this there’s 2 screw down holes on either end. Great for home or camping.
