Potassium chloride solution is used to protect the pH meter probe. Once you use your pH meter for the first time, the tip of the probe should be immersed in a solution of potassium chloride during long periods that you don't use the meter

are these solutions NIST traceable ?

Not even close. They were off by 0.3 units. Completely worthless...

Is the electrode glass? If the electrode solution is low can you add solution to it? If so what is the electode solution?

I don't believe so, it looks plastic but I don't want to tap on it or touch it as your not supposed to. By electrode fluid are your referring to the small jar of neutral? if so yes you can add more to the protective cap and store it upright. the key is to not to let it dry out
