Scotch Tape Dispenser by Karim, Purple (C-36-P)

Adore this little tape dispenser. It's so stylish, and it does the job well! I'm a fashion student, and I'm taking a flat patternmaking class this semester. Our professor told us to buy a tape dispenser that we could use with one hand to save time in class. This is great. I was worried it wouldn't be heavy enough and that it would be flying all over the place but this thing must be at least 2 pounds. The top is a little tricky to get off at first, but just play with it until it comes out.

The color, a rich deep purple, and contemporary design are striking. Dispenser is solid and sturdy, sits nicely on rubber grip base. Compact. Can tear off strip of tape without holding onto the dispenser. Have used it for several months now with perfect results.

Lefties beware, this item is designed more for right-handed people. Yes, you read that right, in the 21st Century companies are still making products that favor right-handers. Today I set my cute little tape dispenser on my desk. A few minutes later I reached for my first piece of tape and noticed there wasn't much room for me to get to the tape. That's when I noticed the opening is wider on the right side than the left. No, it's not unusable, and I will keep it, but it's just disappointing. I'm also very surprised that Scotch wouldn't have noticed such a design flaw.

Once the tape is in place, it is fine. However, I have little girls that like to play with my tape and the dang dispenser is impossible to grab and replace on the metal without having to open it because you can't really get to the roll from the opening. It's cute, and if I didn't have children messing with it, it would probably be fine. However, the closed top design just makes it harder to replace and aggravates me.

It seems silly to love a tape dispenser, but it is the only one I have found that is small. Most of them are narrow and long, taking up a lot more space. This thing is a nice round size, heavy at the base and does the job extremely well. One reviewer complains about the right-handedness of it, which is technically true. The opening for the tape is angled to one size. When I am wrapping presents and using my left had for tape, I just turn the dispenser backwards so I can use my left hand and pull the tape away from me to get a piece.

This is kind of an odd shape. I ended up purchasing this dispenser because I hated the other choices. This was shipped to me kind of in a willy-nilly fashion if you know what I mean. The sand that keeps the base of the dispenser grounded on your desk or wherever was actually already spilling out. It's not terrible and I'll live with it.
