Great book although I tended to use simple syrup in place of agave syrup most of the time

Left me thirsty... for more basics to build up from.
I like Seider's explanation of balancing the drinks, his story, even his recipes and including what he suggests as suitable substitutes for the spirits he uses. He also includes valuable pointers here and there.What I give this only three stars for is I feel like I am reading his recipe book, requiring hard to get spirits as well as a lot of different agave mixes, almost a special agave mix for each different cocktail. I would like a bit more guidance from the basic classic recipe and to be encouraged to try straight agave nectar (to replace gomme syrup, sugar, etc.) combined with fresh ingredients such as mint, cinnamon and so on (as his agave mixes involve)

Best Cocktail Book Around!
Simple cocktails in the front, wild ones in the back. Makes you feel like a real mixologist when you make one of the more complicated concoctions.Is making a pinapple/jalapeño puree from scratch a hassle, yes. Does it create the ultimate margarita that will amaze all your friends, very yes

Great descriptive piece on the nuanced taste of spirits and the subtle undertones that you probably never knew existed. Aside from the useful rule of thumb of creating a proportionate balanced drink (spirits/sour/sweet ratio), the photographer sets the standard and tone for what to expect at a bar in terms of presentation. Every time that I happen to order/make a cocktail, I'd want it to look like the ones that were done in the pictures of this book.

Everything else seems like a kid's chemistry set
Once you've used this cocktail guide, everything else seems like a kid's chemistry set. The drinks are excellent. Never muddy or over the top. Emphasis on fresh, subtle adjustments that bring out the best in top flight liquors.

This book is really good. The book breaks down the cocktails based upon ingredients and talks about ways to elevate the cocktails though manipulation of the ingredients. I am looking forward to many of the recipes.

Definitely one of the better cocktail recipe books available. I use it more than others.

Un libro ben fatto! Da avere nella propria libreria. Scritto in maniera scorrevole ed è pieno di preziosi consigli. Il tutto completato da foto all'altezza del libro. Un ottimo acquisto, sono soddisfatto!

autre livre de Jim Meehan, auteur du célèbre livre portant le nom de son bar New yorkais, "alchemy in a glass" se devrait pourtant d'être bien plus connu car malgré le fait qu'ils contiennent moins de recette que son précédent livre, celle-ci sont bien mieux élaboré et présenté avec certes plus de pré-requis pour les faire.Je pense que ce livre s'adresse plus aux barman et vrai passionné du monde du bar.Meme si il ne révolutionne rien c'est une bonne source d'inspiration et c'est un très beau livre.
