Great for creating glare, but not for reliably holding the phone.
When I purchased this, I did so after researching quite a few options. I read the reviews, filtered out the idiots ("This causes calls to drop when on my boat. Waah."), and then looked at the actual pictures and websites for each. My hopes for this version were high, but ultimately, it didn't suit my needs. While the grabbing technology worked -- important since I frequently drive over rough roads and attorneys in my car -- the spring was actually rather stiff and difficult to hold open during installation. As this was the only feature that it seemed to feature, that was disappointing. It works much like those little air freshener things which are only slightly better than smelling cigarette smoke or dog feces. They smell like the urinal cake version of everything they describe.Once in place, the holder remained, but my phone did not. While the jaws opened wide enough, the sides of this device were too shallow to hold the sides of the phone unless pressed into place exactly. This might work better with a flat-backed phone as mine is bowed. My mistake. What ultimately caused me to return it was the picture depicts a vertically installed vent with horizontal bars. Unlike the 1984 Chevrolet Caprice Station Wagon, Most modern cars have an vent installed at an angle. Since there is less than an inch between the back of the phone and the vent when installed, your phone is angled upward. This makes it an excellent mirror in case you are tracking a runaway hot air balloon. It also is great for causing glare. With the holder mounted on the fins, the vent itself did not have the ability to bend downward far enough to overcome this. In fact, the vent could not move at all, including left or right as the vent handle was blocked from moving side-to-side. Besides that, the vent (while closed) and the sun were heating the phone up dangerously. Perhaps not as dangerously as attaching a powerful magnet to the back -- duh -- but not good, nevertheless.

Don't recommend with a large phone, or if you live in the South.
So this thing is... okay. Don't get me wrong, the main feature of it, the teeth, works great. It's a perfect fit on my Corolla and works great. That being said, the rest of the device leaves a bit to be desired. I have a Galaxy S8+, so it's a rather large phone, but the part that holds the phone is barely deep enough to hold it, and constantly looks like it could slip out at any time. Thankfully, the spring-loaded mechanism does its job well (though makes it difficult to adjust the phone), but the rigidity of this holder is also something I don't care for. My previous car mount (which also attached to the air vent) had a ball and socket mechanism that allowed for easy adjusting of the angle / position of the phone so that I could tilt it towards me, have it vertical or horizontal (wife prefers horizontal for GPS navigation), and had much larger handles for holding the phone (and was easily adjustable). Unfortunately, it did not have the very sturdy tooth that this product has, and refused to stay attached to the vent with my larger phone. If I could take the tooth mechanism from this for securing the device to the vent, the rest of the other product would be perfect.Additionally, I was down in Houston this weekend and made the mistake of leaving this device plugged into the vent when I was not using the vehicle. Though the temperature was only in the 90s, it was enough for the adhesive on one of the two handles to melt, causing one of the grips to fall off. Now it falls off regularly, even when not in prolonged periods of excessive heat. So, in conclusion, the device is probably fine for the average consumer, but for me it just fell well short of what I was hoping for (with the exception of the secure tooth, which does work as well as advertised).edit: I have now had this a couple months, and I will say that it was working well enough for me, despite the issues I mentioned previously. While it always seemed like a close fit, I never did have my phone actually slip out, thanks to the spring mechanism. Unfortunately, this morning, that spring mechanism somehow broke while I was putting my phone in the holder, and now the device is useless. So I will reiterate once again... not recommended for Galaxy S8+ or other large phones.

Easy to attach
EDIT -- Safergo customer service has reached out to me, and explained that a fault in the lot I received resulted in the product failure. They promptly offered to remedy the situation, which was very much appreciated and a good show of faith. As a result of their outstanding customer service I have upgrade them to 4 stars, and re-iterate my original satisfaction with this product. If the replacement maintains it's high quality over normal use, I will gladly remain a Safergo customer -- the product out of the box is probably the best solution to mounting cell phones I've found.Original review left below, to outline my original circumstances.//Out of the box, this is a five-star product. Easy to attach, meets the description, and was able to accommodate my Samsung Galaxy S6 with a case. However, not even 6 months later it failed completely and popped into several pieces while I was driving. Out of the box, it has the ability to rotate to any angle you want, but the mechanism that allows that quickly degrades and so your phone simply flops in the direction of gravity. I was okay with that, but the latching mechanism that held the phone in the place also failed. If you're okay knowing that at its price point you're buying something that is extremely convenient but ultimately breaks in less than a year, go ahead and buy this. Personally, I think that I'll be looking for something a little more sturdy in the future.

Very solid and sturdy. The button to open the jaws needs a very firm press and the jaws themselves are quite wide and wouldn't fit in between the narrow vent slats in our car. I imagine it would be a great bit of kit in cars where it actually fits.

Excellent !!
I've tried various holders over the years. The air vent friction ones eventually inevitably fall off. Windscreen suction cups get in the way and are out of reach. This one holds very very securely to the vent. Even if it were to slip on the foam rubber jaws, the rigid 'tooth' on the end would stop it falling off completely. The spring holding the phone has so far shown no sign of slipping eitherI like the simplicity: it doesn't have an adjustable balljoint, making it fit much more neatly and closely to the dash. The viewable angle on a phone makes a balljoint unnecessary in my opinion. When the phone isn't on it, it's so small and neat that I leave it on the vent (I haven't done this with any other holder). My vents are all horizontal, so I haven't used the rotation feature, but it feels secure at any angle (it clicks to fixed angles, with no adjustable friction parts).Shipped in recyclable cardboard packaging.Very happy with this purchase.

Grips tight, holds right, allows phone to cool in airflow from vent.
This is a good little phone mount that doesn't completely block the air from the vent, on a hot day the AC can keep the phone cool, which can be an issue when running a navigation app as they're frequently quite demanding on the CPU & the screen tends to be on full brightness, full time & because of those the charger is probably plugged in & the battery heats up. Only downside is I can't seem to get another for my wife's car.. When is more stock arriving?

Perfect
Brilliant, just what I was after. Won't budge when it's put on the vent, very well made and seems really sturdy! I have tried a few phone holders and this is the best by far, I had a steering wheel holder which was ok but got in the way off the dash and was awkward to put on charge! This sits perfectly in the vent, I can put it in charge and use the satnav without any issues! Packaged in a box and shipped very quickly!
