Q: can a person with average flexibility (for a 70 year old) operate the lift for crossing driveways and sidewalks while seated on the tractor?

I tow it with a rear engine 13.5 hp sears 30" mower..so reaching the adjustment handle is near impossible to reach from my seat. I need to get off the tractor to lift and reset at each pass meeting pavement. It is not extremely heavy but more oxy and clumsy if you need to personally lift it and move it. But if you have a open spot in a shed or garage where as you can back in and hook it up and do your aerating it shoukd be fine. I absolutely love mine.

Q: Will this work in hard clay soil?

Agreed with others, need a good rain. I tried last fall and the ground was hard, bounced all over the place with 4 cinder blocks on it. After it rained, worked like a charm.

Q: How strong are the knives? Should i worry about tree roots or hidden rocks?

The knives are strong because they are shaped in a “C” cross section and are stiff. The edges will be dulled by hitting rocks and stones. My yard has a bunch of small (1/4-3/4 inch) diameter stones that would sometimes get stuck in the cutting end of the knives, preventing that time from digging a plug. You need to stop and periodically pry the stones out of the ends of the knives.
