Great story
Some good info in tree his book, and I cheered them along the whole way. Worth the read. Always good to get the wisdom of 20/20 hindsight from someone who's been though it

Good book but lacking details
I loved Content Machine and 7 Day Startup books (Dan Norris's books). I assumed this book was about all the details on how to open a brewery (Least Covert Operation...). I know the photos are in the resource link on the website but it is very hard to follow the story without some pictures to illustrate. I was reading in the kindle. Not a single photo in the whole book! Come one, Dan! The book itself should have enough info to digest it, in my opinion.I am not interested in openning a brewery. I am interested in the story as an entrepreneur. Another example, in the pricing section, you explained a little about how you were pricing, but only vague thoughts on that. Why not disclosing the costs and comparison with other beers showing the price and details in the book? It would be much more interesting! Maybe you have a reason not to show the details... but anyways...How much it does the raw materials for brewing cost? Operating costs? The book overall is good, although I have mechanical engineering background, all the technical terms without pictures are annoying to figure how they look like. And I think it lack a lot of details to be interesting the book itself.I like your ideas and I follow you on social media, Dan. Take this as a constructive advice for next edition maybe. ;)Cheers!

If you’ve never worked in a commercial brewery, give it a go
I suppose if you have no prior knowledge of the brewing industry this book may be helpful. Much of what was covered I already knew would be part of the journey of opening a brewery, however, it is still always good to hear someone else’s experience first hand.

An open and honest take on starting a brewery
Hands down one of the best resources out there regarding how to open up a brewery. It highlights Black Hops journey from brewing that first beer to opening the brewery doors. It encompasses details that very few other breweries have talked about. Topics go in to detail like operating costs, major hurdles encountered, marketing strategies, approvals and licensing. Why other breweries have not done this is perplexing. The majority of readers will not take the plunge into opening a brewery due to the capital investment it requires but still want to know the story and problems the brewery faced along the way. Most of what you will read on the internet from established breweries make obvious and unhelpful statements like ‘it will cost anywhere from 100K to 1 million’ ‘You will encounter many unforseen problems along the way’. Well that’s great but how much did it cost you? And what exactly where these problems and how did it affect the operation? Then comes along Black Hops, standing there naked for all to see, giving away operational detail of what it takes to enter the market. It’s so refreshing so see such honesty. While the book doesn’t go in to fine detail or every detail (because it would probably run in to three 500 page volumes) it covers the essentials and gives the reader an insight in to the world of micro-breweries and how to set one up. A must for any budding home brewer that is considering that next step to pro-brewing or anyone that enjoys beer and a good story behind it.

Social Media Marketing Master... NOT
Not really a step by step guide for someone planning a brewery. The writer seemed to pump his own tires the entire book about how great he was at social media marketing... so I looked them up on Instagram and the marketing is sub-par at best. So I got a good laugh out of that. There was some decent information about what you can expect when you open a brewery... which is why this book gets 2 stars.

Dan does it again!
Dan does it again with a nice little read about the not so 'covert operations' of Black Hops. In typical Dan Norris style this is a play by play insight into the marketing, strategy and journey of a startup business.. this time offline but using a powerful mix of offline and online tactics. A generous offering to anyone starting a business even if not specifically in the brew scene. I read this in a single sit down (I admit I did skim read some of the more brew related topics and the China trip section which I'll come back to later). At about the price of a craft beer at your local tap house; if you even get a couple of pointers from it then it is good value.

Funny and bloody useful.
This book has a heap of actionable content to inspire and help create a business from nothing. Directed to the beer industry but perfect for any entrepreneur. I was laughing and writing action steps as I read. Boom.
