Don't cook on it
Okay so in preparation for a trip I have planned once Lock down is over I thought I'd use it a couple of times to see how it works and how too cook on it. DO NOT COOK ON IT.The stove which is a travesty of design has legs which when pressure is applied gently from above.....give way. They slide inwards. THE LEGS DO NOT LOCK IN PLACE. Which when you think that weight is applied from above with a pot of hot liquid then that's really not good at all.Plus the wind break doesn't lock in to the pot at all. Whether it's at the top of the pot for storage or below when being used. The stove is packed in a pathetic black piece of cloth to protect the inside of your pot from getting scratched which I with a cable from which the gas comes down. Trying to thread that around the legs whilst holding the cloth in place is not easy at all. And the cloth is so thin it's just a waste of time. The neoprene cover is a nice touch but the handle isn't great. But I knew that beforehand and can over look that. But the fact that cooking on this stove could mean your hot food comes sliding down the stove is disgusting. This is one expensive kettle I can tell you because for cooking it's a no no. I wouldn't even boil a food pack in it. The legs are so pathetic.I mean if you think about going hiking then you want a stove to heat water for a bru and for cooking. It's quite big and bulky as it is without having to purchase another stove for cooking. So to serve only one purpose of boiling water then thats awful and not conceived very well if you ask me. I wouldn't trust this with a bag of food you boil either.I am shocked that this got to market. There is little to no thought gone in to the design of this product. I was and still am disgusted with it. Initially I was lost for words when the stove failed. But then I was annoyed because this could be dangerous and within 30 minutes of it failing twice I made a product return request. It just didn't warrant a place in my kit bag.Coleman makes some great products but sadly this isn't one of them. Do yourself a favour and avoid.UPDATE: I have now returned this product

A different design solution to the Jetboil style.
At last someone has tried to come up with an original design rather than mimicking the Jet-boil design. The fyrestorm has a stove that is mounted remotely (on three sturdy legs) from the gas canister rather than sitting directly on top of the gas canister. This makes the whole system have a much lower centre of gravity and is consequently much less likely to fall over. Effectively this is a two part system with a stove that can be used on its own with any type of pan, mug or even a kettle. The second part of the system is the pot plus the heat exchanger. The pot is much wider and has a bigger capacity than most of the competitors designs. Overall the system is well designed and manufactured to a high standard. In the photo the igniter looks very flimsy, in reality it is probably one of the more robust ones.Pros.Low height and centre of gravity makes this very stable.Stove can be used with any type of pans without the need for any adapter.Stove have an effective built in wind shield.Very good value for money.Very wide pot which means larger gas canisters fit inside.Large capacity pot, suitable for 2 meals/people.Good quality.Cons.The alternatives are very well tried and tested. The original products cost around twice as much but their quality and attention to detail shows.Overall an interesting development. Not the lightest or most compact, but many may find this appealing not least because of stability compared with usual canister mounted systems.

Its Like Waiting for kettle to boil
I sue this for sea kayaking. The piezo ignitor failed within 5 days.It now takes 3 times a long as my Jetboil to boil the same amount of water. I think the burner head is far too small. A £12 cooker works faster - because the head is bigger. I shall be returning this item. Avoid it, is my advice.

Took 9mins to boil 1L, not 4mins30
1 star because it is not performing as promised.I plan to walk the West Highland Way over 6 days in a month so treated myself to this to use on the trail. Whilst it has been manufactured to a high standard, I tested it at home using some Coleman gas (on full) and it took over 9 mins to boil a litre of tap water, twice the 4 mins 30 as stated.I'm gonna need a LOT of gas if I'm using this thing.

Good backpacking stove, even better as a brew kit.
Not the lightest cooking system on the market but certainly one of the most versatile. I went with the Coleman for two reasons:1) I liked the remote gas cylinder design which gives a much lower centre of gravity and more stability2) Slightly larger capacity than most of its rivals, which suits my purposes.I do use this to backpack with, mostly for day trips but where this really excels for me over the Jet Boil or Alpkit rivals is that it's stability and bigger capacity mean I can also use it as a kettle for brewing up out the back of my day van. It's so much more compact than lugging about an Uno stove and separate kettle and it boils an awful lot quicker, even in high winds. It pours nicely and the neoprene sleeve does a good job of insulating you from the heat. Unusually for this type of stove it has a decent range of heat too so you can actually simmer with it.My only gripe is the stupid cloth that Coleman supplies to wrap the burner in, it's fiddly and not fit for purpose. They should have supplied a bag instead which would have cost just pennies extra but that's a minor irritation.

Good and cheaper alternative to a Jetboil
Have used this a number of times now and does a good job in heating water/food up. I decided that I'd heat packs/tins in water rather than pour into the 'mug' as I'm not sure how much the anti-stick coating would stand up to spoons being used to stir/eat food or full washing up. Very stable and windshield works well as does the automatic lighter so far. My only gripe is that the way the burner is wrapped and stored inside the mug for travel is fiddly and runs the risk of scratching the inside coating on the mug - especially if you store a gas canister inside it too as you are supposed to be able to do. I still think it's a good product just needs a little tweaking to make storing it again easier.
