Reef Octopus Classic 150SSS Protein Skimmer

Excellent skimmer! Skimming from minute one. Assembly is very easy and straight forward. Super quiet, so I love it! The packaging was great, everything arrived without a crack, or even a scratch. I put a 1/2" silicone pad under it to have the proper water level in the skimmer. This baby runs so quiet, it almost scary. I keep looking at the collection cup to make sure it's working. And it is working, no doubt. If you buy it, you will not regret it. It replaced a Reef Dynamics skimmer and I couldn't be happier!

Used this in a 75 gal with 35 gal sump. Working great as long as the water stays topped off. change the cup out every week. My bioload is medium from tank filled with 4inch or smaller fish. There are currently a dozen of them swimming around. Dont underestimate the critical part of this equipment. I was shocked by the amount of waste remained in the water even after a 35% water change and vacuuming.*ATTENTION**Make sure the intake isnt blocked by a filter sock. It is best to clean the collection cup when it gets half full. Or risk spilling some of the waste into the water. (A lip on the cup to pry it from the body of the skimmer is needed.)

After two months of trying to tune a cheaper model found for under $100, I finally have in and bought this mode. I am so glad I did! Assembly was quick and easy! Tuning was even easier! Less than an hour!! Construction consists of much thicker plastic components and an entirely different air hose design. Advice: Save up to go with an Octo Skimmer as knock offs are not worth the headache or frustration! Now I can begin to enjoy first start at a reef tank! Finally!!

I have owned an aquarium since 2001 and been featured on magazine covers. I used a Reef Octopus 150SSS in my Red SEA 250 for 18 months. The primary flaw is the non-tapered neck. After a short period of time the pump and needle wheel do not produce adequate bubbles so the skimmate is weak. It has a propensity to overflow. The adjustments are too sensitive and not easy to control. The rubber seal creates a hold that is too tight making it overly difficult to remove the skimmate collection cup. I found that a Bubble Magus Elite Curve 5 produced way more skimmate than the Reef Octopus and costs much less. Even my old Simplicity 120 was better than the Reef Octopus at producing skimmate. Avoid this skimmer. There are better options of this size at a lower price. Look for the pump ratings in gph/lph.

Im glad I got this skimmer. I'm running a 125g reef tank with a 40g sump and it's keeping up with the Bio-load well. Doesn't take up too much space in the sump and after a while of running it doesn't seem to be throwing tons of mice bubbles out like some other simmered I had. It seems like there is a sweet spot for the air intake hose in the silencer pipe, so with a little playing around it is "relatively" quiet for a skimmer. It has never overflowed on me which was a problem I had with my coralife skimmer, and it seems to be affective in a wide range of water levels as long as its dialed in correctly.

Very lacking in set up instructions, but seems very sturdy and fits even in the smaller chamber of my sump. Can’t comment on overall effectiveness, but out of the box I’m very happy

It was easy to assemble and it’s quite. Only had it for 2days. No complaints. Just follow the recommended water height.

Product seems to operate properly but it was damaged. Does not seem to leak, yet, but disappointed in condition.
