Is it possible to adjust the volume of this device?

Yes. You need to use a drill. The holes for the speaker are really small. 5 min with a drill (detach the front case first) to enlarge the holes fixes that and makes it plenty loud. But, no volume control.

What does it sound like?

I use it in my kindergarten classroom and it’s fun for that purpose. Sound is medium quality I would say. We use mainly the applause mode.

Is there a way that this can be put on a keychain?

It doesn’t have a keychain ring.

Does it take batteries ? If so what kind?

Yes. It takes 3 LR44 batteries. The access panel is in the back. You will need a tiny phillips screwdriver to access the battery compartment. It's only one screw and the panel slides off.
