An all-around slicer
If you like a relatively thin, slicey flat-grind blade in a camping knife, read on. That's what you've got here, a big, broad blade with a distinctive bog-oak handle. As many have noticed, it should excel for food prep, but do fine with other tasks including bushcrafting things. I probably won't carve many spoons in my life but I sure do like to cook and eat. I knew this was a line of pretty good budget knives, but once I learned they were made in Ukraine I had to pick one out and buy it, and luckily this guy is perfect for me. The sheath is really nice, thick leather, well made, and very tight. I doubt it will ever loosen up to the point it's a problem. And yes, it's very, very sharp out of the box. All knives dull with use, so that's not a long-term plus, you have to be able to resharpen that knife, but it tells you the makers are meticulous and too proud to let a just-OK edge go out the door. Also it's made of a solid carbon steel, and and you know it'll resharpen up beautifully because of that excellent factory edge. If this knife doesn't meet your needs they have others, but if it does don't hesitate. Yes, it's high value, but more than that I think this guy will prove its worth in any campsite task you put it to. I'm just glad I got in on, if not the ground floor, early enough to benefit.

Very well-made, knife, the thickness and taper grind give it a very smooth cut.Has spent the last several months in my kitchen and has maintained a good edgeAt first, I thought the grip maybe a little thin for my large hands, but it’s quite comfortable

A little rough but very tough.
I bought to support Ukrainian workers. The knife is a bit rough around the edges but that was easily addressed with a fine file and emory paper. The knife is well-balanced, the handle is not fancy but fits well in hand and the flat grind drop tip blade does double duty as a great knife in the kitchen as well as in the field. The sheath is the same as sold with their bushcraft knife and the fit is not right, but its a very well made and rugged leather sheath that I use with another knife. I will make a cross-draw kydex sheath for this one as the knife is big enough to be a bit obtrusive on the hip. An amazing deal.

Solid knife
A solid choice for a bushcraft/outdoors knife. You can’t go wrong with this very sharp, lightweight knife in the forest or the kitchen. Since I got the BPS Beta this Savage has become my go to kitchen knife, somewhat small to be a chef’s knife but it’s excellent for slicing and dicing most meat and vegetables. The super thin, sharp blade is very slicy, be careful not to lay yourself open.

It's a nice camp chef knife
Not near as practical a camp knife as a scandi grind utility design but it makes a real nice compact chef knife. That's all we use it for. Carbon steel so you have to take care to store it clean, dry and veg oiled. Great for all your woodland culinary endeavors. Real nice leather sheath. Easy to sharpen and used exclusively for cooking it stays very sharp.

Knife = Good / Sheath = Good/ knife + sheath = bad
You can get a negative from 2 positives. The knife is great, lite, thin, sharp, even grind. The sheath is good quality thick leather with a nice dangler and belt loop combo… Unfortunately the sheath is not designed for this blade and the blade will cut the inside while being sheathed. Very hard to push in… Sheath is for the BPS HK5 blade. I have the hk5 as well and it’s the same sheath. The HK5 fits the Savage’s sheath perfectly.If the sheath fit this knife it would be a complete value. It is a big issue for me to have a knife that cuts the sheath. HK5 is a better buy and a little thicker than this blade. The savage is a little thicker than a kitchen knife (you bush guys will love the thin profile and 90 degree spine). That 90 degree spine runs through the entire handle, but you do not feel any discomfort while using the knife (none at all). Fit and finish is safe to say rough around the edges but acceptable for the price. The knife itself exceeded my expectations, the sheath (fit only, materials are good) is a disappointment. Hk5 was great knife, I wish the hk6 was available on Amazon.This will not retire me from these knives but if you plan on only buying 1 BPS go for a model that has an appropriate sheath supplied. Everything else is great with the price in mind.

Poor Workmanship
I own several full tang Carbon steel BPS knives. They are great knives! I will not purchase their partial tang or PRC poor quality stainless steel.This one I want to like.The Knife - Edge was sharp out of the box. I used a strop to clean it up. This was fine. Great shape and size, camp utility knife! 90 degree spine. Wide full flat ground blade.The knife has sharp and rough edges all over the handle!The steel protruding at the pommel with lanyard hole scratches your arm as you walk and stabs your hand as you force the knife into the sheath.I get it, just sand it down.The Sheath - Way to tight!!The knife would NOT go into the sheath!!! - Period.I had to literally pound the knife in! Very dangerous to force a knife into a leather sheath!!!I worked the leather and cycled the knife in and out more than 70 or 80 times. Slowly the sheath began to loosen up. Also, a bunch of material was scraped off the inside of sheath. Finally you could get the knife in. In the process the stitching broke in two places.This is one of the problems with buying online. You do not get to "handle" the knife before purchase.Other knives may be fine?I can only speak for the one I received.The BPS Adventurer is a better choice over this one.Again, I wanted to like this knife.It is a $40 dollar knife.Do I want to spend a couple hours "fixing" it?A Mora 2000 is a $40 knife. No fixing required! It is time and field tested!!Sad, every company that enters the budget knife market knows what they are up against and which company they are going to be compared to.This poor production quality simply cannot happen.
