CKD Numbers are down!
We have a 13? Year old terrier mix rescue who was recently diagnosed with Canine Kidney Disease. Our vet recommended buying a phosphatec binder, specifically mentioning this brand. It was expensive (for me at least) at $35. BUT it is a HUGE jar (think extra large jar of Noxema if you're old enough to remember that! Maybe lrg size jar Cerave body cream for a modern reference) & the scoop inside the jar is VERY TINY. The good news is that it goes a long, long way. I think I calculated this jar would last us at least 8 mos for a 17lb dog. The hardest part is calculating the correct amount to give your dog if you're not familiar with metric measurements or conversions. IRead through the questions se tion a number of reviews to be sure I understood it correctly then I marked a line on the scoop with a permanent marker for what to give him with each meal (daily amount ÷ 2 meals a day). He doesn't always eat all his food so there is some guesstimating when offering him some alternative food to get him to eat something, but I just sprinkle a small amount on, visually trying to match the coverage seen with his measured doses & so far so good. From what I understand the food needs to have a light coating of the powder on it when he's eating it. Giving after, or before, won't help. The food has to have the phosbind attached to it at the time of consumption. We also heat his meals, so we wait until after heating before applying the phosbind. I have to do more research on it, but I don't think the food can be heated or reheated once phosbind has been added. I checked out all the other brands on the market & this is the best deal I could find & seemed to be the best product to use, too. The others, billed as more natural, had their own issues, including some side effects I wasn't comfortable with & they were a lot more expensive, so I went with what my Vet recommended. AND IT'S WORKED! Our dogs phosphate numbers are down & holding steady the last few months since we started using. Since his numbers have lowered, he's regained a little bit of his energy & spunkiness. The Vet has us use it with ALL his food, even prescription kidney food (when our dog will eat it, that is. Sometimes he likes the canned CKD prescrption diet food, but not the dry mostly). In the long run, it IS a cost effective way to lower his phosphate levels & prolong his life. If you need a phosphate binder for your dog (or cat), I, in my nonprofessional opinion, reccomend this product. So far, it's worked for me. The cost was $35. for the lrg jar, purchased Oct/Nov 2022. Good value- also buy SAM-e to replicate Denamarin
My senior dog had elevated liver values, so we had a liver ultrasound and bile-acid test done to see if her liver was failing. Fortunately, other than high ALP values, everything else was deemed fine. ALP and ALT are the two major types of liver values that vets watch out for. My dog had ALP values near 1000, and normal values for ALT. My vet recommended Denamarin Advanced to lower her liver values. Denamarin Advanced is a prescription only product available at the vet, and it costs $115 per bottle for a 30 day supply/count. It's considered the most effective, even more effective than regular Denamarin available OTC for about ~$60, but it was unavailable because of the pandemic supply shortage. This review is our experience using this Hepato product + SAM-e for months until Denamarin Advanced became available again: The active ingredients for Denamarin Advanced are S-Adenosylmethionine and Silybin-phosphatidylcholine complex. Basically, SAM-e and Silybin. This product has Silybin but no SAMe. To replicate Denamarin, we combined this with a human version of SAMe (from Nature's Trove but can be other brands) since canine products often have a significant markup. Still, in general, when buying human products for dogs, always be careful to research and read reviews to make sure it's safe for dog consumption. We were very conservative with trying off-brand products, so we only fed half of the recommended dosage. As a result, there was no change in bloodwork BUT our dog's symptoms did improve. I can't say for sure, but I believe that had we given the full recommended dosage, my dog's bloodwork would have also improved. My dog's biggest symptoms were very heavy panting, drinking lots of water, and slight weight gain. One sidenote, Denamarin Advanced is given on an empty stomach in the morning, at least 1 hour prior to breakfast for maximum absorption. The instructions for this product say to give with food, but the instructions for SAM-e said to give on an empty stomach. We ended up just giving both together with breakfast to be on the safe side, so our feeding method + half dosage may have affected our results / bloodwork.

Important tool for helping to manage kidney health in our cats
This is a product not to be used without a thorough understanding of its implications. It blocks phosphorus uptake; if you decide to use it, please talk to your vet FIRST or you could cause harm to your cat (or dog.) Our cats have early stage signs of chronic kidney weakness and we didn't want to let them "go over the edge" into full-blown chronic kidney disease. Our vet gave us an Rx for kidney food, but it's extremely hit-or-miss with what either of them will agree to eat. I'm happy that they've accepted the dry version of the Rx, but wet? Forget about it. So... choosing non-Rx already low-in-phosphorus-and-other minerals food brands, small amounts of this powder are added to keep things on track. The usage of the powder is based on your animal's body weight, NOT on the meal. Again, can't stress enough that there is a need to be completely knowledgeable about using this additive to your cat's (or dog's) food because too much is detrimental! Best answer is to get your pet to accept the Rx food, but if you can't get that to happen, this is one of two things I do to manage their health, the other being to give them only distilled water (we live where our tap water is FILLED with minerals, otherwise known as hard water) in their fountains and drinking bowls.

Not sure what its really helped with internally but...
Seems to have played a role in limiting the number of times my dog has pottied on the carpet.... it was getting to be once a day if i wasnt constantly asking her about going potty.... but since she started this, she's only had 2 accidents, and 1 of which was directly after starting the product so I know it wouldnt have had time to start working for her yet. As a pet owner who feels like my babygirl is literally my soulmate - came into my life in the most unexpected way, and could only be called an event of Divine Timing, and has been with me through the roughest and toughest times of my life - I would like to offer some information I have recently come across that may very well be the source of whatever your baby (dog) is going through..... Ive been struggling with extreme and debilitating exhaustion for nearly 15 years and recently found a book on Kindle called "Energy: how emotions affect.........." written by Healthview (Colin and Loren Chatsworth, a pair of brothers) and is literally the transcript of an interview with the late Dr. Paul Eck, a genius in nutritional balancing - the balancing of the body's minerals, trace minerals, and the detox of toxic heavy metals.... i high recommend purchasing this book which can be purchased through Kindle for $9.99 (digital version) because this whole topic is just as relevant for pets as it is for humans.... and if youre anything like me, prior to reading the book, i was giving my girl tap water from a house with copper pipes... ironically, out of the 6 dogs we had living here - 1 just had to be put down due to liver cancer that had progressed too far before symptoms became present; and another dog, who is still living, has had extremely high liver enzymes for causes unknown.... however, just like the vet said, it COULD be due to copper toxicity.... there are only 2 ways to find out...1 being a liver biopsy which mean the dog would have to go a hospital on the nearest campus of a veterinary research college because the vets dont typically perform this procedure. Or the alternative, is to purchase a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis which is completely harmless to the animal as a small chunk of their hair is sent in to get minerals analyzed. There are a lot of caveats to this, but the Initial test AND the retest (because mineral levels should be periodically tested after beginning a program for balancing them), can both be purchased for $120.00 which is much less than i would imagine a biopsy is.... not to mention, a biopsy may offer a diagnosis, but it does NOT reveal the root cause of why the liver is malfunctioning in the first place. Whereas a PROPER interpretation of mineral ratios, when read correctly, explains exactly what the root cause is and doesnt attempt to trick the body into shutting down the symptoms... continuing with the mineral balancing program (which typically consists of beginning mineral supplements, [whereas each generally cost $20-$45 a bottle] which is exactly how one should go about detoxing from heavy metals anyway, assuming they arent just picking minerals at random, but are following a protocol as directed by a practitioner of nutritional balancing).... its all VERY specific, but i highly recommend reading the book and quite honestly, if it doesnt mean enough to you to invest the $10 to learn the detrimental aspects of this method, then completely forget about the rest of the program because youre highly likely to make things worse either for yourself or your loved one. Minerals are the LITERAL building blocks of all body compositions (cells, tissues, organs, etc) and theres not a single bodily process that doesnt entirely rely on the proper balance of all minerals in the system... one mineral imbalance naturally and automatically means several more are affected. This is the real root cause of MANY conditions

Works well!
Works like a charm! Our vet recommended this when they did not have the medicine they'd generally prescribe in stock. This solidified my dogs diarrhea after a day of putting it in their food. A little goes a long way! They were not a fan of the flavor in their dry food but, when its mixed with chicken and rice, they scarfed it down. Will be my go-to whenever they have bowel problems in the future.

Saved My Dog's Life!
About a year and a half- two years ago I took my Chihuahua mix in for his then annual dental cleaning. When I went to pick him up that afternoon I was informed that the labs taken before the procedure indicated that he'd had liver failure. I had noticed no changes in his behavior aside from the fact that he'd suddenly started peeing around the house. I thought he was just "acting out." It never occurred to me that he might actually be sick. Anyhow, it was just fool's luck that we caught it when we did because many pet owners don't catch the disease until it's in its final stages. The vet sold me these exact same vitamins for an obscene amount of money with no indication of how long my minion would need to take them. Some research on the internet clarified that he'd need to take the vitamins for life. Cash was pretty tight back then and I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to afford the treatments. I'm not sure what made me check Amazon to see if I could find the vitamins here. Am I ever grateful I did! The exact same vitamins were much cheaper than the ones I'd previously purchased from my vet and they were shipped right to my door within two days. As for the results, within a week or so of taking the vitamins, my previously mild-mannered dog had the energy of a puppy! When he returned for his follow-up visit 30-days after his diagnosis his labs were back to normal where they've been ever since. He's still doing well (knock on wood!), and has never missed a single dose of this medication. Aside from the fact that I've significantly cut back on his favorite high-fat treats (he loves cheese and peanut butter- never at the same time though), the rest of his diet is pretty much the same as it was prediagnosis. He also gets his teeth cleaned twice a year now just to be extra safe.

Measurements Difficult…
I have just received this product (7/06/2024) that was recommended for my senior kitty with elevated kidney values. The first thing I’ve noticed is that the instructions on the label (1 scoop = 1/4 tsp) do not match the scoop included in the tub - the scoop is 1.5 cc which equals approximately 1/3 tsp (1 scoop = 1/3 tsp). Also, it is not clearly indicated whether the 1/3 tsp measurement is at the line, or at the very top of the scoop. I’m finding myself doing all sorts of math and looking into buying a separate, accurately sized scooper just to use this product. That said, I’ll update this review with the efficacy of the powder itself once it’s been a couple months.

Great for any dog who has tummy issues, at anytime.Easy to use and you only need very very little so it goes a long way and works straight away, unlike other products that can be messy to get them to take or take hours or days to work. Must have for my German Shepherd!!!
