Suitable for a 6 year old?
My 6 year old loved the first book Toto and the Great Snake Escape where the characters are introduced and they set off on a mission to capture the terrifying snake called Brian. There was very little vocabulary and few references that needed explaining. He chose the next one himself (because he is crazy about cats) but we are really struggling with it. There are too many characters, the plot is quite complicated, there are a great many military references, about which he hasn’t a clue, and many unfamiliar idioms, (mostly the sort of things an adult might say.). I bought the set of five books on the strength of Book 1, but I think that I should keep them for later. I often read books with him that a 9 year old would enjoy, but this story does not seem age appropriate.

Exciting stuff
My daughter has all 5 of the Toto the Ninja cat books, and she loved reading them. With all the new fangled technology in the world that is obviously FAR more exciting than reading a book, it's hard to get kids to sit and read at times, but these books are funny and entertaining. Well done Dermot, you've written great stories with these.

Lovely, fun read for a non-reader
I've really struggled to get my 9 year old daughter into reading, but she absolutely loves Toto the Ninja Cat. It's the first time she's pleaded for the next book in a series and even saved up to buy the 4th book herself. The story has just the right amount of humour, fun and action to keep her engaged, and she loves the illustrations.
