It is just the sound. It does not actually make ice cubes as a the structure is wood. :)

I believe it is just clicking of the knobs. Maybe the microwave makes a sound. It has been a while since I put it together.

Where can I order just the knobs for the stove?

I order extra pots for the stove is excellent material.

Batteries are required but how many of which size please?

I believe it was only 2 AA batteries for the microwave.
