The interior is BACK TO BLACK!
Ok, as of 9/6/24 I can confirm that these bags now at least have the possibility of a black interior as opposed to the white one that lots of people complained about. Nice job on Jansport's part for listening to customers and making the change. As of today, if you read on their website it says that the bag's interior may vary in color as they make a transition. My guess is the white is either totally phased out by this point or well on its way. Either way, the bag I got has a newer black interior with little pictures of backpacks and jansport written in a varying pattern. I really like the way it looks. As for the bag itself, this is my first "right pack". I had a super break and an older Made in USA kid's size backpack. The Made in USA pack was developing some tears which I repaired before giving it to my son to use. The super break pack felt very thin and cheap so I ended up selling it on eBay. In contrast, this backpack with the Cordura and suede feels very well made and high quality. It is also much better than a typical Walmart backpack. Reading reviews online about how great Jansport's warranty is was enough to seal the deal for me. Given the current price of around $60 I don't think you could go wrong for an all around edc type bag that can fill a variety of roles from international travel to local day trips. The only changes I made were removing the suede zipper pulls and adding coyote brown paracord pulls to all zippers because for some reason they only come on part of the zippers from the factory. Plus I like paracord better than the suede pulls. I also used homemade "Fjallraven" wax and a light coat of olive oil on the bottom of the bag to darken/protect the suede. (Pro-tip: if you use wax on any material, toss the item in the dryer with a few towels on high heat for about 15 minutes and it will help to melt in the wax and distribute it more evenly providing a much better end result and look).I put a small first aid kit with some basics like burn/itch cream, Tylenol, pepto, bandaids, etc. in the front pocket with another small ziplock with some foam ear plugs, safety pins, a couple rubber bands, etc. Just basic things you sometimes need when away from home. In the larger front pocket I placed a Zebra F-301 pen because they are pretty much the best pens made. I also stuck in a sharpie, my sunglasses, an eye mask for sleeping, USB charger block, and 3 way retractable charging cable. In the main pouch I have my MacBook Air m3 inside a Inateck laptop case because the Jansport by itself doesn't offer a level of protection by itself that I am comfortable with given the price of the laptop. I also tossed in my Fjallraven expedition pack down hoodie and Bose QC35 headphones in their case. This would be a typical load out for me to keep at my feet on a long flight. The only thing I would probably add is my Thermarest compressible pillow.Overall I am happy with the bag, if I could change anything about the bag it would be to size it down to approximately 20l as its really a tad on the large size for a edc bag. However, this could also come in handy if I ever use it as a stand alone bag instead of as a personal item in addition to a carry on. For reference, the bag with the above mentioned contents is about 17" tall, 13" wide, and 6" deep without much squishing at all. I think this easily meets personal item sizing for about any airline, but I also think you could easily squish it to fit whatever size you needed. The last three pictures with the factory tags still attached show the bag full stuffed with random pillows just to give an idea of the sizing if it were packed pretty full.

One bag for everything
I travel with budget airline so I wanted a simple bag that can be used as a personal item but also can be used as a backpack once I'm at the destination. This bags storage capacity is big enough for a 3-4 days weekend trip. Not to mention, all the fancy one bag backpacks are super expensive and this is very affordable. The material is durable and it's very light. Overall, looks classy, recommend.

Overall okay
Only complaint is that the side pocket is short and the water bottle falls out. Also the weight of the water bottle makes the backpack fall over so it doesn’t stand up straight when placed on the ground. Previously owned an underarmor backpack and didn’t have these issues, but this was cheaper so here we are.

Quality back pack a bit heavy
I use it for field trips with my students. Need to carry first aid kits, water, lunch, sweatshirt, etc. it’s definitely a good quality back pack. It’s comfortable and large enough to hold everything I need and then some. It is a bit heavier than I was expecting but probably due to the good quality materials it is made of.
